Metal Gear Online service being terminated todayWritten by: / / No Comments
Konami has announced that Metal Gear Online’s servers will be shut down today – exactly four years after the service resumed alongside Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots’ worldwide launch on June 12th, 2008. Metal Gear Online was available as an optional extra on the MGS4 Blu-ray disc and has received three expansion packs – GENE, MEME, and SCENE – since launch.
The MGO service was originally intended to be terminated last year but “out of respect for [its] loyal fans” Konami took the decision to extend the deadline “in order to support [its] online community.”
Here’s an extract from the publisher’s press release:
“It saddens us to announce that we have decided to end online service with the upcoming fourth anniversary of online service. We would like to apologize to all of the users who are currently enjoying the Online Service for this title, and kindly ask for your understanding.
“All of the staff involved would like to offer our deepest thanks for the support we’ve gotten since launch. Thank you for coming with us on this journey. Your help allowed MGO to grow and mature. We regret that this journey must end, but we sincerly hope that we will have the opportunity to serve you again in the future.”
