THQ’s fan-favourite WWE series of wrestling games returns in 2012 with WWE ’13, and according to the publisher, the latest entry to the franchise isn’t just a simple roster update ‒ it’s a revolution!
Releasing in late October and early November around the world across Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii, WWE ‘13 brings a fresh injection of life to the series, starting with the introduction of a brand new cover star and wrestler, CM Punk, who is said to have “changed everything the world knew about WWE” last year with his antics and bold new attitude.
WWE ’13 will also include all-new features with in-game events like ‘Spectacular Moments’ where the wrestling ring itself can topple under the weight of the fighters, while THQ and developer Yukes will also improve the series’ audio technology to allow for what the pair call “the most authentic and vibrant commentary, sound effects and crowd participation levels ever experienced in a WWE videogame.”
The wrestling world’s all-important, crowd-pleasing ‘attitude’ is also enhanced in WWE ’13 with the introduction of a singleplayer campaign which focuses on eight classic and well-known personalities of wrestling, or as THQ calls them, “purveyors of attitude.” ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin is amongst those to feature in the campaign.
This singleplayer campaign is backed up by the career mode where rivalries, alliances, new match opportunities and special moments will be introduced as you progress, all based on your decisions and actions during the game.
While you’ll be able to choose from a great selection of fighters to play as, including CM Punk, Steve Austin, Sheamus, Undertaker, Chris Jericho and more, you’ll also be able to create and customise your own character with the ‘Creation Suite,’ which is where you can choose things like finishing moves, storylines, entrance style and arenas, before sharing your creation with the world and downloading others.
Powering the action in WWE ’13 is what THQ calls ‘Predator Technology 2.0,’ which allows for more detailed animations, new transitions and improved controls to make for “intelligent, fluid and engaging WWE action.”
THQ says we should look forward to future announcements regarding WWE ’13, with new game modes, downloadable content plans, character reveals and “big surprises” on the way before the game’s release on October 30th in North America, November 1st in Asia Pacific regions and November 2nd in Europe.
