Ron Gilbert’s Double Fine game, The Cave, finally unveiled by SEGAWritten by: / / No Comments
It’s been some time since legendary adventure game designer Ron Gilbert (Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island) was in the position to promote a brand new videogame, especially one with distinct ‘adventure game’ elements to it, but SEGA and Double Fine have remedied this with the announcement of The Cave.
A press release announcing the news began with the bold, descriptive words of:
“Puzzles, Adventure, Spelunking!”
That’s not all though.
The Cave is due for an early 2013 release as a digital download for both PC and consoles, and will be published by SEGA while “the mind” of Ron Gilbert and his team at Double Fine continue to development duties.
According to SEGA, The Cave is so odd and compelling that “it can only be described as odd and compelling”
We’ve decided to publish a chunk of the press release because it’s dang entertaining:
“If you enjoy rappelling, spelunking and dark rocky caverns then be prepared to be disappointed! And then intrigued. And then AMAZED. And then disappointed again, but only for a minute. Then relieved, amused, bewildered, excited and satisfied. In that order.
“Your first clue that The Cave is a place like no other will come just after you assemble your team of three unlikely adventurers—each with their own unique personalities and skills—and stumble across a subterranean amusement park and a medieval castle, not to mention a fully armed and ready-to-launch nuclear-tipped ICBM.
“Asked for a quote, The Cave said, “There are those who say I’m not rooting for everyone who ventures down here but that’s not true. Not true at all.” He then followed up with “But I’m also not above a good chuckle when someone falls in lava.” The Cave then began to chuckle.”
