Uncharted star Nolan North nets a cameo in 2013′s ‘Star Trek 2′Written by: / / No Comments
During our time with the Uncharted series of action adventure games, we’ve been on many daring, hair-raising and outstanding adventures with Nathan Drake and his real-life counter-part, Nolan North, but this voice actor is much more than just the devil may care relic hunter.
Even if you don’t realise it, you’ve probably heard Nolan North in the majority of the games you’ve played in the last few years, including Batman: Arkham City (as The Penguin and a collection of thugs), Assassin’s Creed (protagonist Miles), Skyrim, Diablo III and many, many more.
It should come as no surprise, then, that someone as versatile as North would be able to make an appearance in an upcoming blockbuster Hollywood film.
Speaking with Eurogamer, the accomplished voice actor (arguably most known for his work in Uncharted) casually revealed that he had “just worked on Star Trek 2 with J. J. Abrams.”
“[It’s] a very small role,” North says modestly, but the reason he was able to snag a cameo on Star Trek 2 is because “[Abrams] and his son are huge fans of Uncharted. I met [Abrams] doing some work on Super 8 and he said ‘We’re doing Star Trek, you wanna do it?’ And I said I’d love to.”
North then goes on to explain how Abrams is adamant that other movie directors and producers, are “going to catch up” to the medium of videogames:
“They don’t understand how amazing this technology is and it doesn’t get the respect it deserves,” says North, “but if it keeps making the money it makes you’re going to see more and more people converted.
“I mean, Gary Oldman, one of the greatest actors on the planet, did Call of Duty,” North said as a point of reference. “He wouldn’t have done it 10 years ago. It’s a new age dawning, and I’m just really proud to be part of it.”
