Rovio Entertainment is the Finnish developer behind the ubiquitous Angry Birds franchise that has given a new meaning to the word ‘multiplatform’. This morning company CEO Mikael Hed announced a new videogame series called Amazing Alex that will debut in just two months’ time.
Hed told Finnish television station Yle that the new franchise is based on intellectual property that the developer acquired from Casey’s Contraptions – a physics puzzler for iOS.
‘Amazing Alex’ refers to the game’s hero – a young boy who has an insatiable appetite for building new things. Aside from featuring entertaining gameplay, it will also have an educational element.
Hed had this to say when asked if the incredible success of Angry Birds made creating a follow-up franchise a nerve-wracking pursuit:
“The quality pressure is high. We want to maintain the high standard Angry Birds fans have come to enjoy.”
