God of War is getting multiplayer?
That’s right, and in a video interview with God of War: Ascension game director Todd Papy, we discover the innovative ways in which the team at Sony Santa Monica will be introducing online competitive to this classic brawling franchise.
We’ve also just included the debut (brutal) screenshots and (gory) gameplay video for God of War: Ascension multiplayer – enjoy it all below!
God of War: Ascension – Multiplayer Debut Interview
So we now know that the next major entry to the God of War series will include multiplayer, but what will this mode entail?
In the gameplay trailer below, you’ll be able to see eight players (split into two teams of four) running about a designated, multi-levelled arena fighting against each other individually, but group battles are also on the cards. The level on show contains a giant enemy that teams are competing to defeat. Once one team successfully destroys the creature, that group wins the match.
It’s not clear whether or not all of the available arenas will have a similarly large enemy to destroy, or how many multiplayer levels will be included in God of War: Ascension multiplayer, but the video provides a good idea of what to expect.
Battles look to be just as brutal and vicious as ever, if not more so, as enemies are sliced in two complete with hanging limbs.
Game director Papy says that each arena will have treasure chests, traps and other things to interact with during a multiplayer fight, and that the team is balancing the gameplay so that skilled and less skilled fighters will not only have lots of things to do to help their team, but will also be able to hold their own in battle.
Here’s the debut multiplayer gameplay video for God of War: Ascension:
