The PlayStation Blog’s weekly podcast is often the first place you’ll hear news items related to the PlayStation Store release schedule. The latest episode of the ‘PlayStation Blogcast’ is no different, revealing that next week’s PS Store Update will feature a rather surprising addition – a free-to-play version of Killzone 3’s multiplayer mode!
You’ll be able to access Killzone 3’s multiplayer component from the Store when it’s updated on February 28th, and will then have two options to consider. You can either buy the full Killzone 3 multiplayer experience for $14.99 or download the free-to-play version that imposes a limitation on what rank you can achieve, thereby barring you from unlocking certain skills and weapons that are restricted to higher levels. However all maps and game types (excluding DLC) will be available in the free-to-play version, making this offer a very attractive proposition for PS3 gamers looking to dip their toes in Killzone 3’s online warzones.
Is the free-to-play model something that should be applied to the multiplayer modes of other PS3 exclusives like Uncharted 3? Let us know your musings in the comments section below.
