Starting today and tomorrow, your PlayStation Network (PSN) account will be known as a Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) account, but the PlayStation Network service will remain.
It’s been recently reported that the entire PlayStation Network service will undergo a name change, which we now know not to be the case.
The account name that you currently use to log into the PlayStation Network will be renamed, however, but all of your details and information will remain the same. Sony will be making the change in order to make it clearer and easier for people to associate the service with all Sony products and have one log-in.”
When will this name change happen? Starting today in the US and North American regions, and tomorrow in European and other EMEA regions.
What is the Sony Entertainment Network?
Last September we reported on a new initiative by Sony to introduce the Sony Entertainment Network as a catch-all service that would act as a bridge between all of its online services. Under one banner, SEN, Sony will unify its online music, video and gaming offerings with a single online destination (PlayStation Network included), accessible with a single account – the Sony Entertainment Network account.
Sony said in a statement:
“The rebranding of PlayStation Network accounts to Sony Entertainment Network accounts is a change in name only. Your username or password will not change, nor are we asking you to change them.
“On Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita systems, this rebranding will occur in connection with software updates for these devices. (Note, this change will not be applied to the PSP system at this time.)
“This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation Network will be aligned with Sony Entertainment Network. This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.”
“The Sony Entertainment Network account also enables use of Sony’s compelling non-game services such as Music Unlimited, Video Unlimited and PlayMemories Online (currently called Personal Space) across a variety of network-connected devices.”
