Media Create Japanese Hardware Sales for week ending January 1st: unstoppable 3DS does it again

This week’s Media Create hardware figures seem paltry compared to the pre-Christmas sales surge, with 413 667 systems sold compared to last week’s impressive tally of 843 142.

The 3DS once again occupied the top spot with 197 952 systems sold during the past week, with the PS3 and PSP both selling above 60 000 units to take second and third place respectively. Meanwhile, Sony’s newest addition to the PlayStation family – the PS Vita – lagged behind its console cousins with a mere 42 648 units sold during its third week on store shelves.

Sony will be hoping that 2012 brings about a change in fortunes for the PS Vita, which is clearly off to a slow start in Japan. Hopefully some big PSV titles will be released this year which prove to be major system sellers.

You can find the full list of hardware figures below, while the software chart for the last week of 2011 is over here.
