The PAX Prime game festival is just around the corner – taking place in Seattle from 26 – 28 August. There’s sure to be some new game announcements at the event, and one of those titles has already been unintentionally revealed by none other than Xbox Live’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hryb.
Writing on his blog he let slip that Sonic CD will be playable at booth #432 during PAX.
This is sufficient evidence that Sonic CD will be coming to Xbox Live Arcade in the near future, and Sega have responded to queries on the matter by saying that they’ll “be sharing some more information soon”.
Sonic CD was first released in 1993 for the Sega Mega-CD. This places it between the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and 3, and its gameplay is somewhat different to the fan favourite Sonic 2 due to it being developed by a separate team.
The game is fairly large for a Sonic title; consisting of seven zones with three acts each. These zones have some of the most alliterative, evocative titles in the series, such as “Palmtree Panic”, “Tidal Tempest” and “Metallic Madness”.
Personally, I can’t wait to play another quality 2D platformer on XBLA and Sonic CD will be a very welcome addition to the impressive catalogue of Sonic titles already on the platform.
Stay tuned to El33tonline for an official release date for Sonic CD which will hopefully emerge from PAX Prime at some point during this coming weekend.
