According to a report on DigiTimes citing assembly schedules at technology companies Foxconn and Pegatron, Sony plans to begin production of the PlayStation 4 at the end of 2011, in time for a launch of the console in 2012.
The Taiwan-based Foxconn and Pegatron Technology companies together handled the assembly of Sony’s PlayStation 3 and are said to be taking on production duties for the follow up to that console, with roughly 20 million units to be manufactured this year and next to ensure a smooth launch in 2012.
Of interest is the supposed inclusion of motion and body movement-based control features included in the PlayStation 4, similar, sources say, to Microsoft’s Kinect device for Xbox 360.
Let’s see how this rumour pans out, shall we?
