Following the reveal late last week courtesy of USA Today, Atari has gone and officially announced the downloadable title, Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, for Xbox 360 via Xbox LIVE Arcade, the PlayStation 3 via the PlayStation Network, and the PC via download.
Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime is a four-player cooperative action title played from a top-down perspective that lets you take on the role of a paranormal investigating (and zapping) Ghostbuster. This time, you’ll be playing as a rookie hired by the Ghostbusters crew to save New York City “from a disaster of ghoulish proportions.”
As one of the four rookies, you’ve been tasked with clearing a series of haunted environments of their ecotplasmic inhabitants, while the “gripping adventure” is set to feature “gigantic bosses” that require focussed teamwork to defeat. Weapons and tools at your disposal this time include the Proton Stream, Plasma Inductor, and the Fermion Shock, amongst others:
“Rookie Ghostbusters will face the dangers of the eerie world alone or with a ghostbusting team of friends both locally or online through the game’s multiplayer capability.”
Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime is currently in development at Behaviour Studios and will become available in mid-2011.
Here’s a debut trailer for the game, with a few more screenshots to gape over:
