Sony and Polyphony’s upcoming Gran Turismo 5 releases tomorrow! Did you know about that? Crazy stuff.
While the racing simulator will no doubt include an enormous, unconquerable singleplayer offering to allow you to get your racing jollies, unlock hundreds of cars, race on dozens of tracks, and compete in various racing disciplines, the online multiplayer mode in Gran Turismo 5 will initially not be available with a fresh, store-bought copy of the game.
Don’t worry, though. There’s a patch for that.
When you first boot up Gran Turismo 5, and in addition to the game’s optional 6.4GB hour-long installation, you’ll be required to download a 133MB patch to ‘unlock’ the game’s online functionality, including open and private racing lobbies, a message board, community mail and gift features, Gran Turismo TV, the Museum, as well as a news feed service.
The patch will take Gran Turismo 5 to version 1.01, and is already available for those of you who’ve managed to ‘obtain’ the game.
You can get super excited for tomorrow’s release of Gran Turismo 5 with a collection of no less than two unboxing videos revealing the innards of the collector’s editions of the game, as well as a bunch of gameplay videos.
