Bayonetta sells 1.1 million worldwide, SEGA must be chuffed

For a brand new, untested intellectual property, SEGA must be pretty chuffed with the market performance of the Platinum Games developed Bayonetta, after software sales figures released by the publisher revealed that the action game has thus far gone on to sell 1.1 million copies worldwide on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
As impressive as that figure is, however, there was no beating the market performance of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games on the Wii and DS, which has managed to sell almost 5.7 million units worldwide.
Football Manager 2010 (for the PSP and PC) and Phantasy Star Portable 2 (for the PSP) have also performed impressively for SEGA, considering their niche market and appeal. The sales breakdown follows below:
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (Wii, DS) ‒ 5,670,000 units
- Bayonetta (PS3, 360) ‒ 1,100,000 units
- Football Manager 2010 (PSP, PC) ‒ 740,000 units
- Phantasy Star Portable 2 (PSP) ‒ 540,000 units
