El33tonline's Xbox 360 Buyer's Guide for Holiday 2011

A Very Special Buyer's Guide for Holiday 2011

Let’s face it, December is that time of the year where all anyone ever talks about is Christmas Day. As the years have gone by and as the shops have slowly dominated the festive season, so even the holiday period has shifted name and is now more largely known by its colloquial phrase ‘Xmas.’

My personal feelings on the matter aside, it seems a little interesting that December is, then, the month of Xmas, and I trust most of you can’t think of a better way to celebrate the month of Xmas than with a little loving time with your Xbox! After all, we can all agree it’s not called ‘PSMas’ or ‘WiiMas,’ so the only article that really matters this happy season is the one about the ‘Top Ten Games for Xbox 360 of 2011.’

I must add that it’s never going to be possible to please everyone and even with a list as short as a ‘Top Ten’ there will be games that are left out - in the interests of being objective and fair, I’ve tried to include any really noteworthy titles from the mainstream genres so that there should hopefully be something in this list for everyone. If you object to something being left out please shout in the comments.

El33tonline’s Top Ten Xbox 360 Game Recommendations:

Battlefield 3

Battlefield 3 Large Icon Battlefield 3 is a franchise that has survived World War II, the Vietnam War and Desert Combat… and shows no slowing down. If you want an amazing online multiplayer experience then you’re going to have to buy this one for the online pass and get involved. Runs great even on 384kbps and comes on two discs!

PS: As a speaker of the Italian language, please stop pronouncing it ‘For-z-uh’ and start pronouncing it ‘For-tsa.’ Please!

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Portal 2

Portal 2 Large Icon Arguably one of the top Game Of The Year contenders, Portal 2 survived the immediate fan backlash to become a popular and overwhelmingly fun (albeit mischievous) puzzle shooter that has taken over from its predecessor to raise the bar to new heights. How could we ever have lived without Co-Op?

LA Noire

LA Noire Large Icon You’re always guaranteed one thing from Rockstar: Quality titles contending for ‘Game Of The Year.’ If you’re a fan of the Grand Theft Auto series then try life on the other side of the tracks as a crime-solving sleuth fighting for justice and all the good stuff.

Special mention: Top Zombie Game of 2011:

Dead Island

Dead Island Large Icon Although not one of the top ten this is most certainly a game to be played if you’re a zombie fan and enjoy co-op. Of all the zombie games to be played this one focuses more on the gritty struggle of survival than on an arsenal of firearms. Borderlands meets zombie survival in a tropical island resort - what could be better?

Halo Franchise

Halo: Reach Large Icon Halo’s been an old Xbox faithful since the original Xbox and is still going strong. Mark my words: Arnie will show up on the big screen as Master Chief one day. Halo: Reach is probably the best option to go for at the moment but you can snag a good bargain on the other titles too if you hunt around.
