Win Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC! - (Closed)
Congratulations to Cancerous Crow (PS3), SKWEH (Xbox 360) and DarthMol (PC) for each winning a copy of the game.
After many years in development, Big Huge Games, 38 Studios and EA are ready to release Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning into the world, and South African gamers will get to experience the epic, wondrous universe of Amalur starting February 10th, on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
It’s been a long road for Big Huge Games, but the guidance and vision of best-selling author R.A. Salvatore (who wrote the story), comic book legend Todd McFarlane (who designed the creatures and world) and game design master Ken Rolston (who designed the RPG systems) has ensured Reckoning is as complete and unified a singleplayer game as possible, with volumes-worth of history and story, incredible and creative visuals and effortlessly compelling gameplay.
El33tonline and EA South Africa are giving you the chance to win Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, but you’ll need to answer a question that may reveal what you value most in a videogame.
Let us know:
“Whose contributions are you most keen to experience in Reckoning - R.A. Salvatore, Todd McFarlane or Ken Rolston - and why?”
Simply leave your answer below, and also be sure to tell us which platform you prefer (Xbox 360, PS3 or PC), and you could find yourself in the age of Reckoning, soon!
We’re going to run this Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning competition until the very end of February 20th.
You can read over El33tonline’s previous coverage of Reckoning for tons of screenshots, videos and extra details, and also be sure to read our preview and hands-on preview for more information.
Big huge thanks to EA South Africa for providing the prizes!

Salvatore as he is a genious
I'm most looking forward to Ken Rolston's contributions because having played the demo I got a sort of Fable meets third-person action feel from the combat and gameplay, but the mechanics on the RPG side of the game were incredible and had a depth that betrayed the style of combat.
More of that, please. How Fable should have been done, perhaps?
(Xbox360)
R.A Salvatore's contribution because for me the most important thing is the story. One cannot simply play games for visuals all the time and since this game is suppose to last for a 100+ hours we need a decent plot line to go along with the creatures and world.
To be honest i have no clue who those guys are, yeah yeah i know but i dont really play RPGs. Played the demo for Amalur and thoroughly enjoyed it so i am keen to experience all their contributions with fresh eyes.
Oh yes PS3 platform thanks!
Salvatore. That guy = EPIC!
I'm hoping Amalur has a really awesome storyline that sucks me in and doesn't let go thanks to his epic touch :)
(PS3)
Ken Rolston, for sure. He's a Legend and a self-proclaimed "Internationally Celebrated Game Designer". Not to forget, he's the lead designer of Morrowind and Oblivion. Many elements of these games carry over to Reckoning which makes me more excited about it than I normally would be.
PC please.
R.A. Salvatore - the best fantasy author.
XBOX360
Will go with Mr Rolston, the Terry Pratchett like godfather of RPG. Always has interesting ideas.
Salvatore of course. Being a fan of RPG`s i`m always intrueged by the story. It adds depth and deeper meaning to a mythical tale and there`s no better person than salvatore to do that.
Todd McFarlane for me he ontributed to the artwork and the man deserves credit for that PS3
Todd McFarlane. Always loved his style, ever since the days of Spawn. Xbox 360 please.
R.A. Salvatore. Im hoping he has succeeded in creating a really amazing and deep back story that will drive the game play.
I think that I am looking most forward to the contribution of R.A. Salvatore as well as Ken. The open world aspect + storyline? EPIC WIN! It's going to be stunning, with many hours of game play and I can see myself trying out different types of characters to keep the fun rolling! Salvatore is one of my favourite aithors as well!
DOH! And Pc Please!
you mean Todd McFarlane created the creatures? the guy who created legendary characters like spawn? the Violater? Urizen? that Todd McFarlane!! AWESOME! i would love to see the kind of creatures and crazy world he is going to put in this game

and i would love to see them on my XBOX 360 :)
Todd McFarlane!
I LOVE Spawn (I mean c'mon... He's Spawn (still waiting for a game))! I still have the original comics in pristine condition and I have McFarlane's Spider-Man issue... Somewhere here.
That man is a d*amn genius and freakin' well of awesome. From artwork to story-telling, this man has talent and I want -- NAY! DEMAND that he gets some recognition! RECOGNIZE THE TODD!
I would request this for my little one, PS3.
this is a legendary team! the combination of the above can only lead to awesomeness.... creatures by spawn creator Todd McFarlane, the RPG engine of Ken Rolsten (who created the ones for Elder Scrolls! another great RPG!)
but most of all..... R.A. Salvatore! author of note! the legendary Demonwars saga.... what a story, im looking forward to see the story line of this game, hopefully its as good as the books

please, for my Xbox 360 :)
Definitely Ken Rolston. The guy is an industry vet. Also worked on the Elder Scrolls: Morrowind and was the lead designer on the Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. Needless to say, we're in for a good game.
Tod Mcfarlane has created so many interesting characters in his years in the industry. There is no denying that when you walk into any anime shop that sells figurenes that you'll notice his name eveywhere. He has not only been as inspiration to collectors but to now to gamers as well. His influence is unmatched by any of the others. Thats just my view.
Ken Rolston: As someone involved in both TES, and Fable (of which I've played very little of, but relished the bits I did), I'd like to see how they mix
PS3 please
Have to say Salvatore, the stuff he can dream up is epic.
xbox please.
I would have to go with R.A. Salvatore, because no one wants a sucky story and being a legendary author he won't let us down.
PS3
Once part of marvel, he went on to help found Image Comics, He is the reason I have 16 Spawn Figures on my shelves. One of my all time Heores. Everything he works on is a masterpiece. Love Live that legend that is TODD McFARLANE!!
once again, that's Todd McFarlane.
Ps3 Please.
Todd McFarlane - The guy is a simply legendary artist and creator and you can bet your little pinky that he had a part in all those sick executions!
Xbox360
I cant choose! I am keen to experience all 3 these guys contributions! Here is why: (warning, might be a long explanation)
I think each of these people are extraordinary on their own. This would be a great game if only one of the 3 contributed towards the game. But now you will have an epic game than can even push Skyrim out! I am big fan of Skyrim, so its hard to admit there might be a better game out there soon! I have read some of RA Salvatore's book and his way of telling a story gets you involved more than it's just a book. Its actual people and places etc. Now on the other side you have Todd McFarlane who created one of the biggest comic book characters ever! Its just beyond imagination! Great looking characters doing awesome looking things! Go SPAWN!! And then finally you have Ken Rolsten. I am fan just because he was the lead designer on Morrowind (my favorite) and Oblivion! Skyrim looks good etc but morrowind will always be tops between the 3. So each person contributed in their own way and made Kingdoms of Amalur Awesome. But with all 3 these people, THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE EPIC!! I cant wait!! Cant wait to see elements in the game and know who made them!
Got so lost in my typing my explanation... Xbox please!!
I will go with R.A Salvatore he really knows how to write a epic yarn, of the few fantasy books i had the pleasure of reading a few was from him. Sure Rolston really knows how to design a game but the story is what will make Kingdoms of Amalur get a sequel and thats where Salvatore shines. Xbox360 all the way.
I'd say Rolston. The world is full of writers and artists. But world building takes some special talent to pull off in a convincing way. I suspect that the three contributors had to bounce ideas off each other, but I get the impression that Rolston is the one who tied it all up to give us all something special to play in.
Either version will do, please.
Salvatore - cos he's the dogs nutz
Oh and PS3 FTW
I'm not sure to be honest. I liked the look of the game the first time I saw a video of it. The characters and combat looked good and are what got me interested. Then I tried the demo and the story and RPG elements were really interesting in the short time I played. So for me, I hope these 3 guys all brought their A-game to KoA.
Xbox 360
I dont know who those guys are but to me story is important so I say R.A. Salvatore. Xbox360
Personally I have to say that R.A. Salvatore is pretty much what sold me on this game. First of all, I played the demo and found a purple right before it ended. That may have just been a ridiculously amazing demo designer, but either way it impressed me. The story so far is interesting enough, I wouldn't call it completely original, but they say the best inspiration comes from what you know. This is definitely what R.A. knows, and as far as I can see he created a masterpiece with incorporating the lore into the class system. I felt that it could have been even more robust and given a different destiny name and different bonuses depending on all the skill points you put, and what actions you take against or for the important people around you. I believe then that players would believe that each time they played, their experience would be unique from their past "lives." Rolston's art was stunning in some ways, and lacking to me in others as well. I liked the whole "largeness" of the world, but it felt stretched to me. The MMO aspect was not lost on me, but the reason I stopped playing MMO's is because they all seem to have that; The "large and expansive exploration" thing going for them, the problem is that this game does the same thing as MMO's and that's hold up a beautiful face with a very simple brain behind it. What I'm saying is that although it looks beautiful and expansive, the lack of diversity within the realm I played made me truly wonder how much effort was put into that aspect of it. Todd is a very smart man, and I respect him for making this amazing game come together. I feel it could have been a 10 instead of a 9.5, and even if I win this competition I'm buying the game the day it comes out. The only difference is, if I do win this my girlfriend will probably read my "Nerdy D&D books" because I'm going to give it to her and I know she would love it.
Wow Helcack, are you my lost brother or something?! I too have to, without a doubt, go for RA Salvatore. Games are fun and all when they're actually being played (and boy is KoA fun!) but the best part about any game is the impact it has on the player when the console or PC is off: and that impact comes solely from the story. I'm talking about games like Bioshock, Mass Effect, Deus Ex and such. Most of us have finished those games since quite a while back, but we still remember the memorable parts that made us think: holy crap! As I said somewhere else, I'm actually reading RA Salvatore's "The Legend of Drizzt" at the moment (and have been for quite a while) and even though the series is 12 books long(!) I'm still amazed at how awesome this man's writing is whenever I pick a book up and read. The best part about his writing is that he's clever ... The most redundant fact or character in the book usually ends up being the most important somewhere along the story and his characters never get old (even after reading about them in 7 books so far). So the point of all this blabbering? We can all expect KoA to have an amazing story if RA Salvatore's books are anything to go by! :D
Dang it seems like everyone forgets to put their platform of choice (me included) X_X Xbox 360 or PC would be nice ;)
Not that art-design or story are unimportant or irrelevant and play no part in the making of a good game...but in the end we are here to do exactly that: play a game. More precisely: an open-world role playing game. Not to watch a movie or read a book. It is therefore that I will have to say: Mr. Ken Rolston. I am most keen, and I think we all are, to experience the game that he has designed for us.
PS3
Todd Mcfarlane the man is a legend its the whole reason why i downloaded the DEMO and i must say im loving it.
Ooh forgot ps3 please. My initial comment is way up like number 4.
It's gotta be R.A Salvatore. Every great RPG needs a good story-line. The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Diablo, etc franchises just wouldn't be great without a great story. I think Mr. Salvatore will be remembered for his work on Kingdoms Of Amalur
Eish! PS3 please.
Can I not say all three? :D The game as a whole I think will blow us away in every aspect, All three of them have done an amazing job!
Xbox 360
Personally I'm looking forward to both Salvatore's and Holston's contributions equally. I mean, Salvatore's story telling skills combined with the man who designed Morrowind? Pure gaming gold I would like to think. *drool*
PC.
Todd McFarlane FTW! Story is important yes... but atmosphere and characters are important in RPG's like this. If you have 2 good RPG's the one that has awesome art/charcters with lore support does it for me.
Xbox 360
Todd McFarlane as he is Todd McFarlane, do I really need to say more. He is just awesome. Xbox 360 Please.
R.A Salvatore!!! Storylines are the one area that has been disappointing me in RPG's in recent years, and having someone as massive as Salvatore coming up with the plot can only mean good things! Don;t get me wrong, the others will insure that the overall package is astounding, but for me: Def the story!!
^ oh, and for PS3 please!!!
(Xbox360) - I forgot to add my preference
Ken Rolston. I think he's brought some genuine game design pedigree to KoA. Xbox 360, please.
Confession time - I have never read a Salvatore novel, never played a Rolston game, and my closest involvement with McFarlane would be owning some of his Spawn figures, love the designs. So.... McFarlane it is then ;) Xbox360 please.
R.A. Salvatore- he already created so much of the Forgotten Realms, looking forward to see what he can bring to a game. (Xbox 360, please)
It's impossible you can't make me choose it's like telling me to choose between my wife, my mother and my grandmother while they all standing in front of me Argh. There is no right answer and seeing they all working together the outcome can only be great.
Xbox360
It's a tough choice for me as each appeals to a different love of mine but I think the winner is Ken Rolston's - I've always been a bit of a RPG whore and just can't wait to see what he's brought to the table this time.
PC
Todd Mcfarlane, simply amazing artist always loved his stuff.
PS3
R.A. Salvatore of course as he is the vision behind the game.
And Xbox 360 (sorry)
Todd McFarlane as he is Todd McFarlane, do I really need to say more. He is just awesome PS 3
Todd McFarlane as he is Todd McFarlane, do I really need to say more. He is just awesome PS 3
Todd McFarlane as he is Todd McFarlane, do I really need to say more. He is just awesome PS 3
R.A. Salvatore cause his writing skills are going to blow this story to new epic proportions.
PS3 if you please
I have to say all of them each one of them have brought something fresh into this game and are all legends respectively (PS3)
R.A Salvatore's contribution, the man worked on NeverWinter Nights! How could the story not be great in this...
360 please :)
I would have to say all three, R.A. Salvatore, Todd McFarlane & Ken Rolston, The combination of the epic bestseller author who have constructed the history and lore of Amalur
McFarlane who hasnt been impressing my figurine collection that much and now has an opportunity to change my mind when he attempts character design in Amalur,
legendary game designer Ken who we all know, and it has been said far too many times that this is what Fable should have been. I think that the contribution of all three is what
I am looking forward to experience and from playing the Demo I can say honestly it is looking like it may just change my gaming mind!
Oh yah! XBOX360 FTW
i agree with CaViE, xbox please.. thank you
all three for me :) i really enjoyed the demo :) feels like Fable and Allience
xbox please :)
Todd Mcfarlane. He is an awesome artist and his company makes awesome Halo figurines. Xbox 360
R.A. Salvatore....the Demon Wars saga is absolutely awesome
PS3
Ken Rolston, with that much experience under his belt and a vision for passion for great openworld RPG's , I'm excited to see what he brings to this game.
-PC
Todd McFarlane - His style is amazing!
Xbox 360
R.A. Salvatore, story is the thing :).
Xbox 360
RA Salvatore, clearly the guy knows his way around. McFarlane's art is good but not the signature the game should focus on.
RA Salvatore. Loved the Drizzt novels as a kid.
Ken Rolston cause this game is awesome lol
xbox 360 please thank you
For me it has to be Ken Rolston, for he is the one that actually got me excited for this game. I loved Morrowind and Oblivion, and I can't help but wonder what he would have brought to Skyrim. The first time I saw the trailer for Kingdoms of Amalur, I thought it looked like a generic game and was one I then gave no furthur thought to. However, I happened to stumble across the fact that Rolston is working with this game, which captured my interest, and, having played the demo, I am glad that I did, as it is definately something special. I can't wait to play another game that has his genius behind it, and I hope he continues to make more games in the future.
Blimey, looking at all of the other comments it seems I've blabbed on a bit. Sorry about that (though you've probably stopped reading by now)
Still, if your still interested I would like Xbox 360 please, and thanks.
Mr McFarlane, that guy blasted my mind with spawn,he is king...
I want to say Todd McFarlane, as what I've seen in the demo the enemies are a treat and I'm really curious to see more of them and different ways to defeat them. And of course the whole world of Reckoning looks and feels amazing. But Salvatore is what will make the story something to seek my teeth into. Skyrim couldnt grab me, so I'm looking forward to a game which is intriguing and has some real value PS3
Ken Rolston because it has the hottest chicks
PS3 and xbox360
R.A. Salvatore - to me if the story of the game is boring and non interesting i stop playing the game. I thrive on the story of games these days.
(PC or XBOX360)
I would have to say Ken Rolston, for sure. He's the lead designer of Morrowind and Oblivion, so whats not to like about this?
PC please.
R.A Salvatore, if I had to choose only one. All of them are legends in their own right, but a story can make or break any game for me.
^^ PS3 or Xbox360 please!
