With the release of the PlayStation 3-exclusive SOCOM: Special Forces towards the end of April, developer Zipper Interactive delivered a third-person action title that capitalised on the studio’s extensive experience in creating rock-solid military-themed multiplayer shooters.
Zipper also added a fully featured singleplayer campaign comprising 14 missions, tasking players with taking direct control of two squads of AI team-mates while trying to properly investigate a tragic military mishap, in an intriguing story told with gripping cinematics.
In a military zone crawling with enemies, however, you’ll need to make use the cover system put in place by Zipper to survive, while capitalising on the destructible environment to shoot cover out from in front of those enemies to take them down.
Taking full advantage of your two squads (for close and long range assault) is also necessary to suppress, flank and take down enemies.
Being a Zipper game, the multiplayer in SOCOM: Special Forces takes centre stage, and with a host of different game modes to choose from and an extremely active and vibrant online community, you won’t have any trouble finding games and indulging in a few hours of team-based shooting.
And if none of that is enough to get you excited, the game also features full support for the PlayStation Move and Sharp Shooter, so you can play in any way you please!
