At the completion of Assassin’s Creed Revelations, when all has been revealed, you find that the only real thing to keep your assassin needs fulfilled is the multiplayer. Soon though you will have that lingering feeling that you need more. Anticipating this craving, Ubisoft has released a downloadable content map pack to satiate that need.

The Mediterranean Traveller is an apt name for this DLC. As an assassin you travel between a few Mediterranean cities performing your multiplayer assassinations. The pack includes six maps; three new ones, and three maps from the multiplayer portion of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.

The three maps from AC: Brotherhood are Firenze (Florence to you and me), Siena and San Donato. All three maps are centred around a central area with different ways to get your kills. Siena feels like a festive little town with no real tall buildings, while Florence has a lot of high buildings allowing for some great aerial assassinations. San Donato is a wide open map making sneaking a lot more difficult and will reward the master assassins.

The three new multiplayer maps, on the other hand, are all based on locations from the singleplayer campaigns of the series so far. Jerusalem is another flat map where master assassins will have to blend in to achieve their goals. Constantinople and Dyers are more varied in their approaches where little alleyways and building of various heights will allow an equally varied amount of assassination locations.

Playing these maps was fun, but the problem with Assassin’s Creed on PC is that the multiplayer scene is just dead. I waited hours trying to get into a game that would either not fill up with enough players, or the host would just bail. When starting a game I could not get enough players to join and often it was a 1-on-1 situation between myself and another player.

So for three new maps and three refurbished maps you have to find it within yourself to pay the price for the DLC. Initially I thought it was not too bad considering that you get six new maps, but looking at how dead the PC multiplayer scene is for Assassins Creed and how long it took me to fill a whole game, this DLC loses a lot of its appeal on the PC platform.

The maps are varied enough to justify the cost, but not so much on the PC. On PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, however, the Mediterranean Traveller map pack for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations becomes a much better proposition with those platforms’ healthy multiplayer scenes.

The Good: Varied maps that could add some more varied gameplay
The Bad: Does not really add anything new to the game that has not been seen before.
The Ugly: Not being able to fill a multiplayer game in a week. That makes me sad!

Unfortunately, I have too many issues with the multiplayer. So this will have to be an auto-miss for me. :/
