Faceez is a hilariously funny and entertaining creative photo application that Neko Entertainment recently released on DSiWare. Although it’s an application and so can’t strictly be categorised as a game, it’s still well worth taking a look at to have a little fun with the Nintendo DSi cameras, especially taking into account the price tag of just 200 DSiWare Points. In case you haven’t yet experimented with the Nintendo DSi Shop on your DS, let me assure you that it’s pretty easy to load it up, locate Faceez in the list of available games and then download it. It only takes a couple of minutes and then you’re good to go. So let me explain exactly what Faceez is all about then - as I mentioned earlier it’s a creative photo application, one that allows you to personalise photos by adding accessories and animations ala Photoshop. You can even share these photos online with friends, save them to an SD card or export them to Facebook. ![]() ![]() To kick things off simply capture a picture of either yourself or a friend using the inner or outer cameras, making sure that you are in a well-lit area and that you keep your face within the guidelines on-screen. After that you can begin mixing and matching to your heart’s content, and with over 150 accessories to choose from (including different hats, moustaches, glasses, neck accessories and beards) as well as facial features (eyes, nose, mouth and hair) and 60 different animations, the sky really is the limit here. You aren’t even restricted to the options included with the game, you can also mix the facial features of your friends, often with hilarious results, or just hit the random button to add a little spice to your creations. Speaking of hilarious, why not animate different parts of the body, including the person’s arms, legs, eyes and mouth, or capture a photo of your own background to pose your Faceez against. You’ll need to use the three editing tabs to start creating your masterpiece. The ‘Mix’ tab allows you to make up Faceez with different picture types that you have taken, while you can add accessories with the ‘Disguise’ tab. Feel like adding a cowboy hat? Go right ahead! What about making yourself an Indian Chief…with an elephant trunk, a long beard and Solid Snake-like camouflage. Why not. ![]() ![]() You can then move on to the really fun part, bringing the Faceez to life with animation. Whether it be getting the arms and legs to rap, perform ballet, do a backflip or even moonwalk, creating scared or confused eyes and a pouting mouth, things really can get creative here. And last but not least, don’t forget to add a little something to keep your Faceez busy, perhaps a baguette or a banana, or do you fancy a stick of dynamite or a bunch of flowers instead. Once you are happy with your creation, you can save it to your photo album, making it easy to access via the Nintendo DSi Camera menu option. Once you have created a couple of Faceez pictures, you then have the option to load and make changes to any existing Faceez picture that you have already created. However, your creative genius will be somewhat limited as you can only save 20 pictures at a time in Faceez. Although there’s only one short music clip that repeats itself throughout, it’s pretty easy on the ear and you do have the option to turn it off should you choose to. Should you run into any trouble shooting there’s a pretty comprehensive instruction manual that you can browse through, but given the simplicity of the menu system it’s highly unlikely that you’ll need any help. ![]() ![]() Faceez is extremely easy to use and navigating through the different menu options is a breeze thanks to the DS stylus. Kids would really enjoy this application but even adults are guaranteed to have a bit of fun with it. It probably won’t have a huge replayability factor for gamers but will definitely keep the younger generation intrigued for quite some time. |
