Kit is a bounty hunter with a pink tail and a huge blade. That sentence is a summary of the entire game of Blade Kitten. Allow me to explain.
“Kit” is the name of the main character. She is witty, funny, and seems very human compared to some of the other characters. She has a lot of feline qualities, and through this platform adventure those qualities come in very handy. She can scale walls, hang from ceilings and balance on narrow ledges and beams. She also always seems to land on her feet, and finally she has (at least) nine lives. I can almost hear her purr if I listen closely enough.

Kit is a “bounty hunter.” All bounty hunters end up in some form of trouble, and Kit is no different. On the planet of Hollow Wish she is about to take on a new job when a local blonde troublemaker (blondes are always trouble!) steals her breaker key with the job’s info on. In the process of getting her breaker key back and then getting it unlocked, she starts to unravel a far deeper plot than just a simple bounty hunter mission. The people of Hollow Wish need Kit more than they know.
Kit is a bounty hunter with “a pink tail.” Yes, Kit’s feline qualities are also very apparent in her appearance. She has a waving pink tail, and this means we are clearly not in Kansas anymore. The world and characters are all pretty alien and range from robot armies to slugs, from lizard like people to rent-a-cops. This game has a lot of variety in its characters!

Kit is a bounty hunter with a pink tail and “a huge blade.” Big blades means lots of action and Kit does not disappoint. Her blade can be used in a conventional melee manner or in a sort of telepathic ranged manner. It can float ahead of her to allow early attacks and it can be used as an anchor or a shield. Unfortunately for the people crossing her path this blade is exceptionally sharp, and limbs will go flying! As with most legendary blades, this blade has a name: Darque Blade!
Blade Kitten is an action platformer based on a comic by the same name. As the best bounty hunter in the business, her travels lead her to the artificial planet of Hollow Wish. When a local trouble maker steals her breaker key and she gives chase, she soon discovers the planet has a dark secret. In her quest she frees some slaves, fights an army of sword fighting robots, fights through the local mercenary army, then ends up helping them against some lizard aliens and then flee from a humungous alien dragon creature. And all of this is just Act 1!

Lots of non-stop action awaits, and Kit’s sword fighting skills will be tested to the limit. You will only need two buttons during combat: a simple hack and slash button, and a button to send the sword flying in a ranged attack. The blade also comes in handy as a shield generator, and can be used as a harpoon to disarm enemies. Finally it can be used as an anchor when some of the levels’ puzzles throw some wind at you.
Talking of puzzles, this is a platform game after all, and navigating through the levels will never seem like an impossible task, and you will not have to think too hard to figure out where to go next. Along the way you can collect different colour cards which will reward you with more of the local currency. In harder to find places you will find chests with a lot of cash. Achievements await those who will find them all, but this will take a lot of time.

Most puzzles require you to find a way to break through weakened structures, climb around seemingly unreachable platforms or to slide underneath hidden entrances. This adds a bit of replay value to the game as you will almost certainly miss some chests in the first playthrough .
Luckily Kit is not alone through this adventure. She has a handy little helper named Skiff. Skiff is some sort of flying squirrel alien, and is handy when a smaller entrance requires a smaller body. He can also reach some cash that is out of Kit’s reach. Other animals come in handy as well. Some sections will see Kit riding an ostrich lizard to cross bigger distances quicker. His bigger head can also break big rocky obstacles in their way.

Blade Kitten is a very decent game and, considering it’s a smidgen over 500MB, it is amazing the level of detail that can be squeezed into that download. The cut-scenes are all in-engine and are pretty decent. The voice acting is befittingly B-grade, and does not detract from the game at all.
If you like comics and anime, then you will most certainly like Blade Kitten. The cartoon style of the game lends itself well to the overall direction of the game. The game is also not too difficult, and unlocking the achievement of “Nine Lives” actually required me to let Kit die, rather than it unlocking itself during the course of the game. A classic action adventure platformer that does nothing new, but is still very enjoyable, I can recommend it to anyone looking for a bit of cheap fun. Get it if this is your sort of thing!
The good: Very enjoyable action romp with nice set pieces and big dragon aliens.
The bad: Limited attack combos and almost too easy.
The ugly: Pink tails and fluffy lizard pets…what a weird world!
