The release of Zipper Interactive’s SOCOM 4 (or SOCOM: Special Forces in Europe) is just around the corner and is due to hit store shelves over the week of April 19th in North America and Europe, so naturally we’re going to start seeing a bit more chatter from the developer regarding its next realism-based military shooter.

In this video developer diary, members of Zipper talk about this realism, and the focus on an authentic experience with a well-told story wrapped around the gunfire, explosions and covert operations, while also discussing the reactive artificially intelligent enemies and how you’ll need to use your team to defeat these wily foes.

A post on the US PlayStation Blog has announced an officially official release date for the anticipated SOCOM 4, a squad-based military shooter that has fans of the franchise in an absolute tizzy!

The release date for SOCOM 4 is set for April 19th in North America, and if you happen to pre-order the title over at GameStop, you can claim an exclusive map, ‘Abandoned.’

Whatever happened to MAG, that ‘massive action game’ for PlayStation 3?

El33tonline thought quite highly of the online team-based shooter, and at least one team member goes back to play now and again, but other than the occasional news of downloadable content and a patch, the game has fallen off of the proverbial radar.

So it was a little bit of a surprise when rumours began swirling regarding a follow-up to the game, a ‘MAG 2’ for lack of a better term, but now the developer behind the game has revealed that the idea of a ‘new’ MAG isn’t too far-fetched of an idea, after announcing that an enormous, feature-packed ‘MAG 2.0’ title update is on the way.

Zipper Interactive has confirmed that SOCOM 4 for the PS3 is now set to release in 2011, instead of its previously announced ‘Fall’ 2010 launch window.

Citing the need for extra time to create the best game it possibly can, Zipper announced the release delay for the next entry to the SOCOM series of tactical squad-based shooters in a post on SOCOM’s official blog, writing:

Zipper Interactive has announced that new features will be available for their massively multiplayer online first person shooter MAG in early August.

The next MAG patch, version 1.07, will add new features that players have been asking for in addition to a “few surprises” in just over a week from now. You can see a list of some of the changes you can expect below, but the developer also promises more details of other additions and fixes closer to the update next week.

Zipper Interactive has announced that new downloadable content for their massively multiplayer online first person shooter MAG will be available on the 29th of April.

Known as the Fast Attack Gear Pack, the new MAG DLC will be 100% free and promises to cause marksmen to swoon because of the three new Special Edition Sniper Rifles and the new armour types.

After a brief period of mystery as Sony Computer Entertainment teased the announcement of a new entry to a tried and tested fan-favourite franchise, the publisher has today announced the existence of SOCOM 4, which is set to release in the Fall of this year, exclusive to the PS3.

SOCOM 4, a new tactical squad-based action shooter currently in development at Zipper Interactive, will feature a full singleplayer operation as well as a 32-person multiplayer mode, with an even greater focus on realism and teamwork than ever before.
