After a brief period of mystery as Sony Computer Entertainment teased the announcement of a new entry to a tried and tested fan-favourite franchise, the publisher has today announced the existence of SOCOM 4, which is set to release in the Fall of this year, exclusive to the PS3.

SOCOM 4, a new tactical squad-based action shooter currently in development at Zipper Interactive, will feature a full singleplayer operation as well as a 32-person multiplayer mode, with an even greater focus on realism and teamwork than ever before.

Sony has announced that its upcoming 256-player online PS3 exclusive shooter, MAG, will be released across North America on the 26th of January 2010.

The publisher also released the first web release of the MAG E3 trailer and promised that details on the MAG Public Beta and new assets would be revealed soon.

In the last developer diary of the series, MAG developers Zipper Interactive talk about how they’re trying to ensure that players don’t feel like a “cog in the machine” amongst the 256 players that are able to take part in a match.

In order to do this, they came up with the idea to break objectives down into smaller tasks that squads of players can accomplish in order to contribute to the overall progress of their team, conveying the feeling of achievement.

Zipper Interactive, the developers behind the massive online PS3-exclusive shooter, MAG, have released another developer diary (the third in the series), this time talking about the three factions, or private military companies (PMCs), you’ll be able to choose from in the game, namely Raven, Valor and S.V.E.R. From the US PlayStation Blog:

“Do you associate with the high-tech, polished Raven, or are you drawn in by the traditional military style of Valor? Or perhaps you’re into the edgy, aggressive S.V.E.R.? I’ve chosen my allegiance; which private army will you join?”

Jeff Rubenstein recently had the opportunity to speak with Zipper Interactive, the developers of the massively multiplayer online shooter, MAG, to ask some questions put forward by the PlayStation community.

Well, he managed to catch the entire conversation on video, which is now available below.
