The Writers Guild of America has announced its five nominations for the Videogame Writing Award of 2009, comprising the games Uncharted 2, Assassin’s Creed II, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Wet and X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
The winner will be announced on February 20th during the 2010 Writers Guild Awards ceremony, being held simultaneously in Los Angeles and New York.
Raven Software, an internal development studio at Activision Blizzard, and most recently responsible X-Men Origins: Wolverine and last week’s Wolfenstein, has been hit with a round of layoffs, continuing the industry trend of expanding during peak periods of development, and then reducing the team size when in planning stages for their next game.
In the case of Raven, though, work continues on their recently delayed first-person shooter Singularity, while no other announced titles are known to be in development at the studio.
Congratulations to Nicky Diamond and Thys Van Zyl for winning themselves each a copy of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, courtesy of Megarom.
In case you missed out this time, head over to our review of the game to see what it’s all about.

Activision Blizzard has sponsored the wolverine enclosure at the Edinburgh Zoo for one year to celebrate the launch of X-Men Origins: Wolverine in the UK this past Friday.
The lead male wolverine at the Zoo has also had his name changed to Logan after the popular Marvel character portrayed by Hugh Jackman in Twentieth Century Fox’s film of the same name. Edinburgh Zoo has the only wolverines in the UK and this sponsorship will ensure that the breeding programme will continue into 2010.
A slew of game demos have hit Xbox LIVE Marketplace over the last few days, not least of which is a demo for X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
The demo for the action brawler, starring (nearly) everyone’s favourite X-Men (X-Man?), Wolverine, is now up on the service, allowing you to “unleash the adamantium claws and real-time regeneration of the world’s fiercest hero – Wolverine.” Hoo-Rah!
Now that the game has been released, the question remains: which version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine is better? The Xbox 360 version or the PS3 version? Gameplay-wise, they’ll probably be identical, but graphically? The video below will help you decide which console is superior when it comes to pushing polygons and shaders [I’m staying out of this one – Oliver].
