For 1200 MS Points today, you’ll be able to purchase and download a new Xbox LIVE Arcade game by the name of Toy Soldiers, which is officially described thus:
“Command your TOY SOLDIERS in epic, action-packed battles set in a World War I toy diorama. Assemble your troops and position your defenses before the enemy storms over the top!
“Then take direct control of your artillery to bomb the enemy positions, pilot your bi-plane against the enemy trench, or maneuver your tanks across No-Man’s Land… and lead your TOY SOLDIERS to victory!
“Play the single-player campaign and dive into two-player head-to-head combat, local or on Xbox LIVE.”
If you would like a more visual explanation of the goings-on you can expect from Toy Soldiers, don’t hesitate to roll your retinas down below for some trailers and in-game footage:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 simply sucks (up) too much (of your time) these days to even care about when it comes to the Xbox LIVE Activity chart, and week after week, it effortlessly becomes the No. 1 most played game on the listing, ahead of games such as Halo 3, Call of Duty: World at War, Fifa 10 and Call of Duty 4.
Not even the recently released Aliens VS Predator made a dent, but this week’s Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is the most likely to give the behemoth Modern Warfare 2 a run for its billion dollars.
In terms of top selling Xbox LIVE Arcade tittles, Duke Nukem 3D benefits from a recent Deal of the Week and becomes the top seller, as regulars Trials HD and Battlefield 1943 also show up at No. 2 and 3 respectively. Unfortunately, Darwinia+ from Introversion has slipped off of the Top Twenty chart completely…
The best selling Xbox LIVE Indie games list is dominated by new game Avatar Showdown, followed by The Impossible Game at No. 2 and I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 at No. 3, both of which are sure to be put out by this ‘newcomer.’
The full global list of top played Xbox Live games, original Xbox games and top selling XBLA and Xbox LIVE Indie Games follows below, all based on unique users and full versions purchased (and now including the full top 20):
A trio of new Xbox LIVE Arcade games have arrived on Xbox LIVE Marketplace today, all of which are pretty much polar opposites of one another… if you can have three poles that are opposite…
That was a bad example! They’re all very different gameplay experiences, and if you’ll kindly head on down below, you’ll be able to read a nice quick description of each new XBLA game (namely Greed Corp, Fret Nice and Lazy Raiders), and watch some great trailers and gameplay videos to further understand each one.
Enjoy:
Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb has been good enough to unveil the full release schedule for the next month or so of Xbox LIVE Marketplace content, including Deals of the week, Games on Demand, Xbox LIVE Arcade Games, Avatar accessories and game add-ons, as well as dates and prices for the content.
Get it all down below:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is simply not amused by the attempts of the other Xbox 360 games in their attempts to dethrone it as the most played title on Xbox LIVE for the past week, as it ably retains its title for the umpteenth time in a row ahead of Halo 3, Call of Duty: World at War, Fifa 10 and Call of Duty 4.
As far as the best selling Xbox LIVE Arcade games are concerned, Battlefield 1943 rises up the ranks to the No. 1 spot thanks to a previous Deal of the Week, as Trials HD and newcomer The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom following in second and third.
The best selling Xbox LIVE Indie games list returns to normal, however, as The Impossible Game, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 and Avatar Drop make up the top three, while last week’s shining star, Yet Another Zombie Defense, is in fourth.

Ah, Duke Nukem 3D… a fond reminder of those nascent days of PC gaming, when the biggest, hottest games around were pixelated ‘3D’ shooters, and there were no bigger or hotter titles than the two titans (at the time) going head-to-head in the marketplace, the original Quake from id Software, and Duke Nukem 3D from 3D Realms.
All of that is ancient history now, though, and the ‘marketplace’ has shifted to that of the virtual Xbox LIVE Marketplace where Duke Nukem 3D is now available to members of Xbox LIVE for 800 MS Points… unless you’re a Gold member, in which case you can grab it (for one week only) for an incredibly low 400 MS Points, as this week’s Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week!
As part of what Microsoft is calling its ‘Xbox LIVE Arcade Block Party’, a bunch of Xbox LIVE Arcade games, including Perfect Dark XBLA and Toy Soldiers, as well as the recently announced Xbox LIVE classic arcade gaming destination, Game Room, will all become available during the month of March, now with exact dates to look forward to.
You can find out what those dates and games are, and what they look like, with more information and in-game videos below:
Let the time-twisting adventures of P.B. Winterbottom and his never-ending quest for pie commence! A 2D platforming adventure game, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom has finally arrived on Xbox LIVE Arcade, bringing with it over 75 brain-teasingly unique puzzles as you push the laws of time to the limit.
From the official, whimsical description:
From now until the launch of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 at the beginning of March, it should just be taken for granted that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will continue to appear at the top of Xbox LIVE’s activity rankings and remain the most played game on the service, ahead of games such as Halo 3, the Aliens VS Predator demo, Call of Duty: World at War, and (oh look, speak of the devil) the Bad Company 2 demo.
The top selling Xbox LIVE Arcade game this week is Turtles in Time Re-Shelled, followed by Marvel vs. Capcom 2, both of which benefited from a Deal of the Week not too long ago, as Trials HD and Castle Crashers predictably chart closely behind.
What looks to be a new Xbox LIVE Indie title called ‘Yet Another Zombie Defense’ (but taking advantage of a tried and true theme) takes top honours in the sales department this past week, ahead of The Impossible Game and I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1. Go zombies!

And lo, Microsoft’s Xbox division deemed today to be the day that the Xbox LIVE Arcade title, Battlefield 1943, would see a price reduction down to 800 MS Points, accessible only to the most righteous of gamers, the ‘Xbox LIVE Gold Members,’ and on the seventh day of availability, this particular ‘Deal of the Week’ would rest.
N64 gamers from back in the day will fondly remember Perfect Dark, not only for the singleplayer campaign but probably mostly for the split-screen multiplayer frag-fests, blurry textures and low polygon models.
Rare and Microsoft have been busy lately trying to resurrect this classic first-person shooter from the ‘good old days’ for Xbox 360 gamers by gutting the assets and replacing them with higher quality textures, models and sounds, as well as bringing the title up to date with online capabilities and Xbox LIVE functionality.
A little further below, you can catch a few good glimpses (or one long extended stare) at what could very well be the first publicly released in-game footage of this new version of Perfect Dark (releasing on Xbox LIVE Marketplace this March for $10), which is looking incredibly sharp indeed:
Last week I gushed a little about Introversion Software and the fact that the developers have been toiling over their latest work for a good long while, but now it’s finally time for the world to see the results of Introversion’s hard labour in the form of Darwinia+. From the release:
“The world of the peaceful Darwinians has been decimated by an evil virus and without your help they have no hope of survival.
“Play the full campaign or take control of a Multiwinian army and challenge your friends to some digital carnage in this IGF award winning action-strategy classic from Introversion Software. It’s a stick man slaughter where only the flattest survive.”
Darwinia+ is now available on Xbox LIVE Arcade for the sum of 1200 MS Points. You should definitely have a look at some screenshots and the debut trailer for the game over here, and at least give the demo a try. You shan’t regret it.
A brilliant looking time-twisting puzzle platformer by the name of The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom will be arriving on Xbox LIVE Arcade on February 17th, courtesy 2K Games’ Play label and indie developers The Odd Gentlemen, and after watching the launch trailer for the game below, you may just think that that date can’t come soon enough.
Near the end of last year, SEGA began teasing about the return of the publisher’s inimitable mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog, to the glorious world of 2D gaming (as opposed to the string of below-par 3D ‘adventures’ he’s had over the years) under the codename of Project Needlemouse.
The teasing has continued over the months as SEGA tried to get fans to guess which franchise favourite characters would feature in the new game, but when the dust settled, it appeared as though it would be a solo adventure for the blue speedster, and if you ask the fans, that’s just fine.
Now a recent announcement on GameSpot has revealed the true name of this so-called Project Needlemouse, and hopefully a true 2D return to form for the Sonic franchise – Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1.
Major Nelson mixes it up this week and provides expanded lists and data to show what the most popular games and downloads are on Xbox LIVE for the past week, and to give “a much better idea what the 23 million Xbox LIVE members are playing,” with a top twenty instead of a top ten.
That doesn’t change the fact that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is still the most played game on the service, however, ahead of Halo 3, the Bad Company 2 demo, Call of Duty: World at War and Fifa 10.
The best selling Xbox LIVE Arcade game, as a result of a Deal of the Week, is Portal: Still Alive, ahead of Trials HD and Castle Crashers, while the best selling Xbox LIVE Indie game is Avatar drop, finally dethroning I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1, with The Impossible Game following in at third.
