Not content to have the fastest-selling PC game of all time in their stable, Activision and Blizzard have announced that World of Warcraft: Cataclysm has gone on to break another record for PC gaming, this time for monthly sales.
Blizzard has revealed that the company’s recently released World of Warcraft: Cataclysm has become “the fastest-selling PC game of all time” after selling over 3 million units in just 24 hours of availability.
Despite the release of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, a game we all expected to be a market-dominating title, Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision Blizzard’s other massive title) has done the unthinkable (not really) and overcome the competition to remain at No. 1 on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales Chart.
Even FIFA 11 was able to outpace the first week sales of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, showing up at No. 2 on the chart! What’s going on here?!
Oh, what’s this? The third expansion pack for the massively popular massively multiplayer online RPG, World of Warcraft, has only just been unleashed around the world, and members of Blizzard are ready to discuss the fourth set of content?
I hope you enjoy your stay in Azeroth and Outland, WoW players - it seems as though you’ll be living there for even longer than you originally thought possible, with the potential for an entirely new continent to be added to the game…
Speaking to CVG ahead of the launch of the just-released World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Blizzard’s lead systems designer Greg street said:
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is now officially available around the world, as you are reading this very text! Exciting, no?
With the launch of this Azeroth-shattering expansion comes the release of an epic ‘Collector’s Edition’ version of the game, and as with all epic limited edition offerings Mother Internet is usually subjected to the pain and weight of more than several new videos being added to her carriage – videos depicting the shameful act of unpacking one of these monstrous boxes!
These ‘unboxing’ videos (as I’ve chimed on in the past) are truly odious, but kind of addictive in some deep, long-forgotten way. All that’s missing from the experience is that wondrous ‘new booklet’ smell.
Scratch and sniff technology can only go so far.
It’s the last hurrah for weekly videogame releases, with Blizzard Entertainment’s World of Warcraft expansion, Cataclysm, set to be unleashed around the world at midnight tonight, and all throughout tomorrow.
Will it become the best-selling PC title of the year, besting Blizzard’s own StarCraft II in the process? Can it possibly become the fastest selling PC title of all time, overcoming the mighty past achievements of Blizzard’s previous World of Warcraft expansions?

Blizzard Entertainment has just announced that a range of exciting launch events will be taking place around the world to celebrate the release of World of Warcraft’s impending and achingly epic expansion, Cataclysm.
The third expansion for Blizzard Entertainment’s incredible massively multiplayer online RPG, World of Warcraft, has been stamped with a release date of December 7th, 2010 – the date that players will finally be able to test their skills against the mighty ‘Deathwing the Destroyer’ in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm.
Just to ensure that the game’s already-rabid fan base puts red marker to calendar so as not to ‘forget’ about the impending release of the expansion (like there’s a chance of that happening…), Blizzard has released a gorgeous, epic introduction cinematic for Cataclysm featuring Deathwing’s first CG showing in the title, as he suits up for destruction.

Blizzard Entertainment has finally announced a solid release date for World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, the developer’s hugely anticipated expansion/world destroyer for the genre-dominating massively multiplayer online RPG.
After all of the rumours and leaks regarding the possibility of a third expansion for the world dominating World of Warcraft, as well as guesses at what such an expansion could possibly bring to the best-selling massively multiplayer online RPG (MMORPG), Blizzard officially announced the existence of World of Warcraft: Cataclysm during BlizzCon over the weekend.
Cataclysm is set to add a host of new features, locations and playable races to World of Warcraft, and also promises to revamp some of the older areas of the game by adding new art assets and challenges.
