The latest and greatest update to Blizzard Entertainment’s enormous (and massively) multiplayer online RPG, World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, recently went live to bring your game up to version 4.3.
New to World of Warcraft with this patch adds a whole new raid and new dungeons, a new quest line, new armour sets, a Raid Finder tool, as well as features known as ‘Armour Transmogrification’ and ‘Void Storage.’
I hope those mean something to World of Warcraft players, because it’s all Orc to me.
In addition to announcing a new expansion pack for World of Warcraft this weekend, Blizzard revealed the collector’s edition for the developer’s early 2012 action RPG, Diablo III, while releasing a jaw-dropping new cinematic trailer and detailing how certain members of its community will automatically get the game for free.
Let’s start with the collector’s edition of Diablo III, which contains the following items:
During BlizzCon 2011 over the weekend, Blizzard Entertainment confirmed that a fourth expansion pack for the developer’s World of Warcraft is in development and will add a new race, continent, class and level cap to its massively multiplayer online RPG.
If you were under the impression that the launch of a new Gears of War game is in any way less of an event than the release of anything else you might care to mention, then get ready for some knowledge.
In an interesting turn of events, Blizzard Entertainment has revealed plans to allow those (still) interested in the company’s hugely popular World of Warcraft massively multiplayer RPG to play the game for free… up until a certain point.
Blizzard Entertainment has announced its intention to attend this year’s edition of gamescom in Cologne, Germany to showcase its current line-up of titles with live StarCraft II eSports matches and showings of top World of WarCraft guilds engaging in live raids.
According to Blizzard, you’ll also be able to catch up on the latest news from the studio and “partake in our famous dance and costume competitions” at gamescom 2011.
El33tonline was at gamescom 2010 and snapped quite a few images at the event, and we’ve included a few photos of Blizzard’s presence at last year’s massive videogame show below:
New York Times writer Seth Schiesel recently got some hands-on time with Diablo III, the next industry crushing title from Blizzard Entertainment, and while Schiesel discovered a few new interesting morsels of information about the game proper, game director at Blizzard Jay Wilson gave millions of us a little more hope that this titanic new action RPG may see a 2011 release.
When Diablo III was first officially unveiled a couple years ago, developer Blizzard Entertainment showcased a game with visuals that many thought were heavily influenced by the company’s other runaway hit, World of Warcraft, what with its over-exaggerated proportions, unique colour palette, the looks of the special effects, and even the design of some of the enemies.
A little something like this:
Now though, a massive batch of screenshots has emerged revealing what Diablo III could have looked like if Blizzard had continued down the path of a version of the game that was in development way back in 2005. And it looked… a little something… like this:
Not content to have the fastest-selling PC game of all time in their stable, Activision and Blizzard have announced that World of Warcraft: Cataclysm has gone on to break another record for PC gaming, this time for monthly sales.
Blizzard has revealed that the company’s recently released World of Warcraft: Cataclysm has become “the fastest-selling PC game of all time” after selling over 3 million units in just 24 hours of availability.
Oh, what’s this? The third expansion pack for the massively popular massively multiplayer online RPG, World of Warcraft, has only just been unleashed around the world, and members of Blizzard are ready to discuss the fourth set of content?
I hope you enjoy your stay in Azeroth and Outland, WoW players - it seems as though you’ll be living there for even longer than you originally thought possible, with the potential for an entirely new continent to be added to the game…
Speaking to CVG ahead of the launch of the just-released World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, Blizzard’s lead systems designer Greg street said:
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is now officially available around the world, as you are reading this very text! Exciting, no?
With the launch of this Azeroth-shattering expansion comes the release of an epic ‘Collector’s Edition’ version of the game, and as with all epic limited edition offerings Mother Internet is usually subjected to the pain and weight of more than several new videos being added to her carriage – videos depicting the shameful act of unpacking one of these monstrous boxes!
These ‘unboxing’ videos (as I’ve chimed on in the past) are truly odious, but kind of addictive in some deep, long-forgotten way. All that’s missing from the experience is that wondrous ‘new booklet’ smell.
Scratch and sniff technology can only go so far.
At midnight tonight around the world, the land of Azeroth will forever be devastated and transformed by the mighty Dragon Aspect Deathwing, when the latest expansion pack for Blizzard Entertainment’s industry-crushing World of Warcraft is finally unleashed.
With the latest, final trailer below, you can catch glimpses and extended looks at some of the fantastically epic environments you’ll be exploring in World of Warcraft in the coming weeks and months, thanks to the release of Cataclysm.
“Citizen of Azeroth - Behold:”
World of Warcraft players will no doubt be aware that something big is heading their way very soon in the form of a world-shattering event, as the Dragon Aspect Deathwing readies himself to wreak absolute chaos and change the land of Azeroth forever.
Blizzard Entertainment has just announced that a range of exciting launch events will be taking place around the world to celebrate the release of World of Warcraft’s impending and achingly epic expansion, Cataclysm.
