Hot on the heels of the announcement of the blue Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games Wii bundle for Europe and the black New Super Mario Bros. Wii console bundle for the US, Nintendo UK has released details of even more Wii console bundles that will be available in time for Christmas.
The distributors of Wii in South Africa - Core Gaming - today announced that a new Wii bundle will be available at retailers this spring. The bundle will include the newly redesigned Wii which is slightly streamlined and built to sit horizontally like the Wii U rather than stand vertically like previous models. Unfortunately the redesigned Wii is no longer backwards compatible with GameCube software.
Following the recent announcement of a special range of price-reduced Wii games in the US and Europe, as well as prices cuts for the Wii itself, official distributor of Nintendo in South Africa, Core Gaming, has announced that these titles will also be making their way into the country under the ‘Nintendo Selects’ label, while South Africa will benefit from Wii bundle price cuts, too.
And what’s better is that all of these offers will become available to South African consumers at the same time as our UK counterparts!
Nintendo recently announced the existence of a brand new Wii console bundle that includes a black Wii (with Nunchuck and WiiMote) and a black Wii Balance Board, as well as copies of fitness software Wii Fit Plus and the sports mini-game collection, Wii Sports.
Nintendo of Europe has announced that the New Super Mario Bros. Wii Pack (or ‘the red Wii bundle’) will indeed be making its way to the region’s shores, as reported earlier today with the appearance of an image of the PAL version of the console.
To celebrate 25 years of Super Mario Bros., European gamers will be able to get their hands on a super Wii bundle which includes a red Wii, a red Wii Remote Plus, a red Nunchuk, and a total of three games, namely New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Wii Sports, and a pre-installed version of the original Donkey Kong, in homage to Mario’s first ever appearance in a videogame.
[Update] Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that the red Wii will make an appearance in Europe after all. Find the details on that story over here. [End of Update]
An image of an English, ‘PAL’-branded red anniversary Wii box recently surfaced on the ‘net, leading to wild speculation (and focussed speculation, too) that this version of Nintendo’s home console will also be heading to European retailers later this year.
This follows the reveal that a special 25th anniversary Super Mario Bros. Wii, coloured red, will be released in Japan on November 11th.
Pretty much everyone knows that if you buy a Wii anywhere in the world (except Japan), you’ll also receive a copy of Wii Sports in the bundle as well as a Wii Remote and Nunchuk.
Core Gaming (distributors of Nintendo in South Africa) have decided to make the deal even sweeter to celebrate the 2010 FIFA World Cup kicking off in South Africa this week. Now they’ll throw in a copy of Wii Sports Resort and a Wii MotionPlus too when you buy any white or black Wii.
To the absolute surprise of no-one, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has released and zoomed straight to the top of Chart Track’s UK Software Sales Chart for the week ending November 14th.
Modern Warfare 2 managed to record the biggest launch in the region ever, with 1.78 million units solid in the UK over five days, generation a whopping £67.4 million.
Sales numbers uncovered in Nintendo’s last quarterly financial report reveal that the Japanese giant managed to achieve four million-selling games for the three-month period ended June 30th, down from six games during the same period last year.
Pokemon Platinum, Wii Fit, Wii Sports and Mario Kart Wii all sold over a million units for the quarter, although there were no replacements for smash hits Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Wii Play, both of which boosted Nintendo’s number of million-selling titles last year.
The full list and precise sales numbers for each of the four million-selling Nintendo games follows below:
Following their (most impressive) financial results reported yesterday, Nintendo have revealed their list of million selling titles on the Wii and DS.
No surprises to see Wii Sports, Wii Play and Wii Fit top the list of million-selling Wii titles, while Nintendogs, New Super Mario Bros and Cooking Guide (?!) top the list of million-selling DS titles.

Wii Sports has become the best-selling game of all time, knocking Super Mario Bros. off the number one spot.
This is according to the latest data released from VGChartz.com which shows that as at the week ending the 27th of December 2008, Wii Sports has passed the sales of Super Mario Bros. (NES) with sales now sitting at 40.52 million units. Wii Sports, bundled with the Wii console in every country except Japan and South Korea, reached this landmark after 110 weeks of sales.
VGChartz data shows that the Wii has sold 45 million units to date, meaning that Wii Sports sales could reach the 50 million units mark.
Bundled with most NES consoles, Super Mario Bros. was released between 1985 and 1987 across the USA, Japan and Europe. It reached sales of 40.24 million units on an install base of 61.91 million NES consoles.
It is interesting to note that Nintendo dominates the Top 10 best-selling games of all time according to VGChartz. Following after Super Mario Bros. in second place is Pokemon Red/Green/Blue, Tetris, Duck Hunt and Pokemon Gold/Silver.
