In a ceremony held late last week, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed walked away with the Video Game Writing Award from the Writers Guild of America.

Writer's Guild of America LogoOther nominees for the award were Fallout 3 (Bethesda), Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 (EA), Tomb Raider: Underworld (Eidos) and Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble (Mousechief). Star Wars: The Force Unleashed writers Haden Blackman, Shawn Pitman, John Stafford and Cameron Suey picked up the award on the team’s behalf.

Now in its second year, the Video Game Writing Award was awarded at this year’s 2009 Writer’s Guild Awards. Last year’s award winner was Dead Head Fred from Vicious Cycle Software, and written by Dave Ellis and Adam Cogan

Not to lessen the achievements of the abovementioned games, but hopefully we’ll see a greater adoption of these awards next year, as these games and nominees aren’t really indicative of the quality of writing on show in 2008’s games.
