I will be the first to admit that the girl in me always gravitates towards female lead characters (Lara Croft being a case in point), so I was intrigued to give WET a go. But other than Lara and Rubi both being female lead videogame characters, the similarity ends there.

Unlike the British accented Lara who possesses a certain air of charm to her and her quests to save the world, Rubi Malone (despite exhibiting the same curves) is a little rough around the edges. For one thing she swears like a trooper, for another not only does she wield Duel Pistols but a Samurai sword too, and she’s in it for one thing, the money.

A demo for WET, a third-person action game starring female protagonist Rubi Malone (voice by Eliza Dushku), has been released on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, but is currently only available for Xbox LIVE Gold members.

The main feature of the game is its acrobatic nature, allowing players to slide along the floor, jump over obstacles, and dual-wield handguns while packing a samurai sword, all while slowing down time to help with precision and add cinematic flair to proceedings.

The latest heroine-fuelled action adventure game, WET, has been slapped with a release date for Europe, set to launch in mid-September on Xbox 360 and PS3. Creative Director at developer A2M, Patrick Fortier said of the title:

“We’ve worked really hard to make WET different from any other action game available.

“When players experience the game’s unique blend of gunplay, sword combat and acrobatics, they won’t want to put the controller down.”

Have a look at the recently released musical trailer below (which is just a tad bit silly) for a humorous take on the game, but also be sure to give El33tonline’s previous coverage of WET a good look:

While Fortier speaks, some slick-looking in-game action sequences play out, as the game’s protagonist slides, swings and wall-jumps her way around some levels designed to suit the range of moves you’ll have access to during the game. Watch below:

The third-person shooter known as WET, previously to be published by Vivendi but dropped after the Activision/Vivendi/Blizzard merger, now has a new publisher in the form of Bethesda Softworks (a ZeniMax company and creator of Fallout 3 and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion).

WET, which is described as a ‘highly stylised third-person shooter,” allows player to use a variety of weapons (guns and a samurai sword) and moves (sliding on floors, running on wall, performing acrobatic moves) in order to complete your objectives in the game, moving seamlessly between acrobatics to gun and sword play.

As gun-for-hire protagonist, Rubi Malone (voiced by Eliza Dushku), you are tasked with performing covert operations that may get a little messy, also known as ‘wetworks.’ President of Bethesda Softworks, Vlatko Andonov told the press:
