As a Watchmen fan, you’re either groaning with disappointment or yipping with delight at the sight of this new Watchmen game, coming to a mobile near you.

The game appears to play out as a classic side-scrolling brawler, ala Final Fight/Streets of Rage/Double Dragon, with sprites that look pretty detailed for a mobile game… maybe. Watch below to make up your own dang mind:

The console game, Watchmen: The End is Nigh Part 1, releases on March 4th on Xbox LIVE Marketplace and March 5th on the PlayStation Store. You could also forego the whole mobile version and play an excellent Flash iteration over here.

Watchmen: The End is Nigh is a set of two downloadable games for both Xbox 360 and PS3, that take place ten years before the events of the upcoming movie, where crime and terror rule the city.

Another mash-up story? Surely not… but indeed it is.

Watchmen LogoFans of the Watchmen comics/graphics novels are clamouring for the Watchmen episodic games releasing on Xbox 360 and PS3 (and the movie, of course), but they are being denied by Old Man Time, as the release dates are still a little ways off.

What is a Watchmen fan to do? Perhaps you could partake in a little Flash gaming for once, and leave your fancy high-definition consoles alone for a second.

The game is pretty dang good, allowing you to play as either Nigh Owl or Silk Spectre, and fits the style of arcade games from the 80’s perfectly, although you can’t jump forward or do any air attacks… still, a great game to while away the time until the Watchmen movie and games are released.

Head on over here (may take a while to load) and then pop a quarter into the arcade machine to start.

Warner Bros. will be publishing Watchmen, an episodic downloadable game based on the upcoming DC Comics inspired Warner film, for the Xbox 360 and PS3. The game is scheduled to be available in 2009.

The film is being directed by Zack Snyder (of 300 fame) and is set in an alternate 1985 America where superheroes have been outlawed. The story sees a former hero searching for the truth behind another superhero’s murder and stumbling across a conspiracy in the process.

Described as a mature action-brawler, players will go beyond the film and delve into characters, rivalries and challenges as urban vigilantes Rorschach and Nite Owl.

“We’re bringing the Watchmen universe to gamers in a distinct episodic game revealing action and combat for a great overall experience for fans,” said Samantha Ryan, Senior Vice President, Production and Development, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

“The filmmakers have been extremely helpful in developing the high-quality game story and we are working to match the outstanding visual style of the film.”
