The mischievous Professor Genki is at it again, this time extending his fun-filled (or ‘fun-filled’) game show out into the streets of Steelport with larger-than-life tests of character, determination and physical ‘integrity’ - there are some hungry sharks lurking about.
In case you needed your in-game Saints Row: The Third persona to look any more ridiculous (or awesome, as the case may be), a brand new set of downloadable content recently became available for Volition’s open-world action game, bringing with it new clothing options.
And by ‘clothing’ we actually mean ‘armour.’ And by ‘armour’ we also mean ‘space suit.’ And by ‘space suit’ we actually mean ‘poor excuse for a space suit.’
So, the debut Grand Theft Auto V trailer was released an hour ago showcasing Rockstar Games’ latest vision for the series, taking place in the fan-favourite location of San Andreas (modelled on real world Californian cities such as Los Angeles) with very believable and realistic action.
But… what if realism isn’t your style? What’s the polar opposite of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V?
Saints Row: The Third.
Want a headstart on your character creation antics ahead of the release of Saints Row: The Third in mid-November? Easily done, now that the Saints Row: The Third Initiation Station Beta has gone live!
By now, you’re sure to have witnessed the intensely atmospheric, epic and military-themed trailers for Activision’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and EA’s Battlefield 3, both of which exude very identifiable visual touches, action sequences and audio cues.
It seems as though people at THQ and Volition have seen these trailers, too, and together the publisher/developer pair have released a video of their own, only this time featuring Saints Row: The Third imbued with elements that are somehow very familiar:
[Update] Added a just-released eight-minute Saints Row: The Third story and gameplay trailer below - don’t miss it! [End of Update]
When Saints Row: The Third was first revealed, developer Volition came out swinging with a series of powerful showings with batches of screenshots, an incredible CG trailer, an over-the-top gameplay video and a completely bonkers pre-order offer.
This latest trailer for Saints Row: The Third continues to impress with further reveals of the cruel, crazy and explosive action (and actions) of the game, as we learn a little bit more about the fiction that pushes proceedings forward… although when you can drive a tank around in the streets of a city and eject people out of a ‘man-a-pult,’ story fades into the background:
We didn’t think it was possible for Saints Row: The Third to get any crazier than it already is. After watching that “over-the-top and ridiculous” gameplay video showcasing super-powered accessories, tank battles in the middle of the street, ‘man cannons’ and a whole lot more madness, we honestly thought that the team at Volition had escalated the action as far as possible.
We were wrong. So wrong.
Ever since the game was first formally announced, we’ve been patiently waiting for a few good, extended looks at Saints Row: The Third in action with an impressive gameplay video or two.
Information and screenshots are nice, but short of actually playing the game, there’s nothing like a nice video slice of a highly anticipated title to showcase what kinds of raucous action we’re going to be able to get up to.
Red Faction: Guerrilla bucked the first-person tradition of Volition’s previous Red Faction and Red Faction 2 shooters by letting players loose in an open-world sandbox environment while pulling the camera view out to a third-person perspective. Guerrilla continued the series’ signature world destruction feature, however, but vastly improved this aspect by allowing players to literally bring buildings and structures crashing down by removing their supports, or simply by smashing them to bits, piece by piece.
Volition’s latest shooter, Red Faction: Armageddon, once again bucks the series’ trends by placing you in a more linearly constructed world (rather than a wide open space) to provide much more focussed gameplay and a stronger narrative than Guerrilla.
Epic world destruction capabilities are still (very well) represented, and while there are stretches of time where you’ll find yourself plodding through the same gameplay sequences, all is forgiven when the action ratchets up and the alien-shooting intensifies, and you’ll find quite a bit of gameplay variety to keep you interested until the very end.

That’s right - THQ and Volition’s crushing (in more ways than one) third-person shooter Red Faction: Armageddon is now available to provide us with all of the world destruction (and reconstruction) action we can handle!
Saints Row: The Third has been slapped with a November 15th release date in North America, and a November 18th date everywhere else, THQ has just revealed.
To celebrate an official release date for Volition’s next crazy, way over-the-top open-world sandbox game, an incredibly stylish CG trailer has been released to help us understand just some of the factions and actions we’ll be seeing in the title:
THQ has just announced that over one million gamers have now downloaded the Red Faction Armageddon demo, which became available earlier in the month.
And with that awesome news, developer Volition has revealed that Mr Toots has been unleashed in Red Faction Armageddon.
What’s the big deal with Mr Toot’s? Well, I’m glad you asked!
THQ has released a new Sketch Mode trailer for its upcoming third-person action game, Red Faction Armageddon, which is coming very soon to a PS3, Xbox 360 and PC near you.
The trailer shows protagonist Darius Mason and Kara in this new Sketch Mode, which is actually a kind of cheat mode that is built into the game.
You know what’s cool? Lenticular 3D images. It’s always fun tilting a seemingly flat image back and forth to see that picture change and animate before your eyes.
You know what’s even better? When the box of your favourite videogame features this ‘magical’ effect, giving you a reason to closely examine the cover art while manically tilting the box from side to side.
This is exactly what you’ll be able to do with a limited edition of Red Faction: Armageddon, the Commando & Recon Edition. Check out a demonstration of the lenticular 3D effect with the image below:
THQ and Volition’s Red Faction: Armageddon is coming soon to a PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC near you very soon, and when it hits, we’ll be privy to a mighty action game that combines crushing set-piece action with impressive cinematic flair, to make for one of 2011’s most memorable games.
That’s what I get out of this latest trailer for the game, in any case.
It’s well worth a watch as we see protagonist Darius Mason unwittingly unleash a hellish underground army of aliens on Mars. Explosions, gunfire and incredible scenes ensue:
