I contend that Dead Space 2 is the culmination of decades of game development lessons and learning, benefiting from everything game developers have learned over the past thirty years, and all of the knowledge that these digital wizards have collected and stored in their overarching hive mind.

Dead Space 2 is presented in incredible style and you’re never once given the chance to think that what you’re experiencing is anything but the highest quality. Likewise, the third-person action of Dead Space 2 is tuned to expert degrees, ensuring you’re always comfortable with the challenging in-game scenarios and able to overcome these challenges with your own accumulated skill. The world is wonderfully realised, the story is delivered very well, and you’re kept engaged throughout. And there’s multiplayer!

But there’s something a little off about Dead Space 2. Despite all of the visual splendour, gripping action and extremely memorable events, there’s a blandness that I personally couldn’t shake while playing. The game has one note that it plays exceptionally well, and there are even a couple different, interesting notes included in the melody to mix it up… but considering the intense mood and atmosphere of this horror-themed action game, that melody can become all too familiar and oppressive.

How many methods have Visceral Games found to kill, rend, destroy, gib and dismember Dead Space 2 protagonist Isaac Clarke? Let me count the ways…

By the looks of this montage video (included below) put together by Gametrailers, there are many paths towards the death of Isaac Clarke, all of them horrific and gory (and pretty entertaining), as those alien zombie Necromorphs and the environment itself make quick work of the poor fellow.

If (READ: When) you pick up Dead Space 2 today in the US, or on January 28th in the UK, Europe and South Africa, please do your best to keep Isaac alive to save him from going through any more excruciating fatalities:

A new video interview with Dead Space 2’s executive producer Steve Papoutsis reveals a few neat things about the action horror game that you may not already have known.

Papoutsis talks about some of the new weapons present in the title and their applications, how the development team is trying to increase the horror and environment interaction, and also the way Dead Space 2 will keep you on your toes not just with visual cues, but with audio events and the need to remain spatially aware (you don’t want to get sucked out into space, do you?).

Dead Space 2 First Image Small CutWhen Dead Space 2 was first officially announced, EA and developer Visceral Games confirmed that the next game in the action adventure horror franchise would appear on both the Xbox 360 and PS3, and have since then merrily gone about teasing further details related to the title through screenshots and trailers.

PC gamers, however, weren’t having any of it, and wanted to know if Dead Space 2 would be showing up on their gaming platform of choice, too. The original Dead Space was released for PC, after all.

EA and Visceral Games have released an eerie, horrifying debut trailer for their next survival horror action adventure game, Dead Space 2, and is it ever creepy!

Dead Space 2 Screenshot 1

From the sounds of things, protagonist Isaac Clarke has been through something of a rough time since the last outing, probably having been driven mad by the sights and sounds he experienced on the USG Ishimura in the original Dead Space, but this debut trailer hints at something more… something that his scientist friends may have had a hand in that has lead to Clarke becoming… different.

The debut trailer for Dead Space 2 certainly is unsettling, with imagery and themes that one may consider ‘heavy,’ so proceed with caution:

Currently hard at work on Dead Space 2, developers at Visceral Games are very well aware that the demo for the original Dead Space wasn’t all that great. In fact, they know it stinks.

Dead Space 2 First Image Small CutWith Dead Space 2, however, they’re pushing the game to new heights and in different directions, and are intent on letting gamers know ahead of time what they can expect from the game once it releases early next year. The best way to do that?

Release an awesome demo, of course!

Speaking to G4TV, Visceral Games executive producer Steve Papoutsis said, speaking with regards to a demo for Dead Space 2:

Call of Duty Logo

Activision Blizzard has announced that the publisher’s newly formed internal studio, Sledgehammer Games, will handle an iteration of the Call of Duty franchise in 2011, taking over the reigns from franchise stalwarts and creators Infinity Ward.

This news arrives on the back of the revelation that Infinity Ward studio heads and co-founders Jason West and Vince Zampella have been let go from their positions after an apparent breach of contract with Activision, in the wake of a worrying period at the developer on Monday that saw strong-arm and intimidation tactics resulting in panicked, “confused” and “freaked out” employees.

Some players of EA’s literary action adventure game, Dante’s Inferno, have reported a game-stopping bug in the ‘Greed’ section of the title that does just that – stops you from making any further progress in the Greed level of Dante’s Inferno, and thus, the game itself.

From a YouTube video posted by a user experiencing the bug, it appears as though the in-game scripts are playing out in reverse, or have already been activated, so when the user tries to trigger a moving platform, it moves in the opposite direction to where it’s supposed to go, impeding progress.

According to a Twitter tweet from the Dante Team, a fix to this problem is coming soon, as the update reads:
