Sleeping Dogs has quickly become one of the more interesting games of 2012 thanks to its unique setting and promises of stylish, brutal combat as you go head-to-head with the Triad in the streets of Hong Kong.
It’s a good thing undercover detective Wei Shen and his bone-crunching martial arts abilities have been unleashed in Hong Kong - and the other side of the world - because the thought of even accidentally getting on his bad side is terrifying.
LittleBigPlanet Karting is shaping up to be another great PlayStation 3 exclusive that stays true to the LBP series’ tagline: ‘Play, Create, Share’. Media Molecule has entrusted this new entry in the franchise to ModNation Racers developer United Front Games, who appears to be treating this valuable license with the utmost care and respect.
With Grand Theft Auto V still drifting in release date limbo, the next open-world title on the horizon is Sleeping Dogs. The game is set in Hong Kong and sees you assume the role of Detective Wei Shen as he attempts to infiltrate one of the region’s most notorious Triad organisations - ‘Sun On Yee’.
I’ve seen plenty of action-packed trailers in my time but I don’t remember witnessing real-time footage of a game’s protagonist leaping from his bike onto the roof of a car so he can hijack the unsuspecting driver. Well, now I have!
It’s official - LittleBigPlanet Karting is coming to PS3 this year! Last month there was strong evidence that the game was in development but Media Molecule chose today to finally lift the lid on the project.
Few games have used Hong Kong as a setting despite its rich history, varied terrain and impressive skyline. Sleeping Dogs’ developer United Front Games is looking to capture the essence of the territory’s cultural and architectural diversity through a gripping story and open-world playground packed to the brim with authentic details.
Hong Kong is the seedy and morally ambiguous venue for Sleeping Dogs - the latest open-world action game published by Square Enix. Personally I’m a huge fan of games set in exotic locales and starring foreign protagonists so I’m intrigued to see how the game’s story element is handled.
It was almost two weeks ago that Square Enix and United Front Games revealed the publisher/developer pair’s collaboration in the form of Sleeping Dogs, a brand new open-world action game that we may have heard of before under the guise of Activision’s True Crime: Hong Kong.
Long (sob) story short, Activision cut development on that game, United Front got to continue work on it without the intellectual property and Square Enix picked up the project and re-branded it under the decidedly excellent moniker ‘Sleeping Dogs.’
Up to speed?
Square Enix has today formally announced Sleeping Dogs for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, a new open-world action game set in Hong Kong and due for a release towards the latter half of 2012.
Currently in development at United Front Games (Modnation Racers), Sleeping Dogs is described as “a gritty and visceral openworld cop drama set in the vibrant city of Hong Kong,” a depiction that is not coincidentally similar to Activision’s True Crime: Hong Kong.
The news that all ModNation Racers fans have been waiting for has finally arrived: The next patch for the PS3’s ‘create and share’ kart racer, Title Update 1.02, will be going live tomorrow, August 4th, at 2:00 am Pacific Time, and goes a long way towards “improving many of the issues the community has been concerned about.”
The patch includes a new ‘casual’ difficulty mode, various fixes, and improvements to load times, while new features have also been added to the game’s online community site to coincide with the release of the patch.

At the end of a blog post detailing some of the great new user-generated content ModNation Racers players have been creating (some of which is included below), some more information regarding an upcoming patch for the game was brought to light, with the reveal that a ‘Casual’ career difficulty will be introduced to give racers a bit of an easier time.
One of the complaints levelled at ModNation Racers was that the computer-controlled opponents were just a little too deft on the track, capable of trashing human opponents with ease.
With the introduction of the new patch, however, a new Casual difficulty setting will even out the troubles some players have been having with these opponents, as Ramone Russell from Sony Computer Entertainment America explains:
It was revealed just last week that Sony and United Front Games’ stylised ModNation Racers racing game would be available in the US on both the PS3 and PSP on May 25th, and that you’d be able to pre-order the game with some intriguing in-game rewards.
In the lead-up to the launch of ModNation Racers, United Front Games invites you into their studio, and let’s you peek behind the scenes into the creation of the game as we find out about all facets of this awesome looking create/share/play racer, while glimpsing liberal amounts of gameplay footage from the title.
