It was almost two weeks ago that Square Enix and United Front Games revealed the publisher/developer pair’s collaboration in the form of Sleeping Dogs, a brand new open-world action game that we may have heard of before under the guise of Activision’s True Crime: Hong Kong.

Long (sob) story short, Activision cut development on that game, United Front got to continue work on it without the intellectual property and Square Enix picked up the project and re-branded it under the decidedly excellent moniker ‘Sleeping Dogs.’

Square Enix has today formally announced Sleeping Dogs for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, a new open-world action game set in Hong Kong and due for a release towards the latter half of 2012.

Currently in development at United Front Games (Modnation Racers), Sleeping Dogs is described as “a gritty and visceral openworld cop drama set in the vibrant city of Hong Kong,” a depiction that is not coincidentally similar to Activision’s True Crime: Hong Kong.

The news that all ModNation Racers fans have been waiting for has finally arrived: The next patch for the PS3’s ‘create and share’ kart racer, Title Update 1.02, will be going live tomorrow, August 4th, at 2:00 am Pacific Time, and goes a long way towards “improving many of the issues the community has been concerned about.”

The patch includes a new ‘casual’ difficulty mode, various fixes, and improvements to load times, while new features have also been added to the game’s online community site to coincide with the release of the patch.

MODNation Racers Box ArtAt the end of a blog post detailing some of the great new user-generated content ModNation Racers players have been creating (some of which is included below), some more information regarding an upcoming patch for the game was brought to light, with the reveal that a ‘Casual’ career difficulty will be introduced to give racers a bit of an easier time.

One of the complaints levelled at ModNation Racers was that the computer-controlled opponents were just a little too deft on the track, capable of trashing human opponents with ease.

With the introduction of the new patch, however, a new Casual difficulty setting will even out the troubles some players have been having with these opponents, as Ramone Russell from Sony Computer Entertainment America explains:
