Update Added new trailer for the uDraw GameTablet below. End of Update

Last month we brought you news that THQ had plans to bring its popular uDraw GameTablet to the Xbox 360 and PS3. The publisher has now released details of the new peripheral which will boast “an entirely new look, enhanced creative functions and touch screen features.”

THQ’s uDraw GameTablet is a unique peripheral for the Wii which has enjoyed considerable success since it was introduced in November last year. Featuring a plastic “canvas” with a cradle for the Wii remote, as well a pressure-sensitive stylus, it allows users to draw naturally on the canvas while simultaneously mirroring their creations in one of THQ’s uDraw-enabled games (such as Pictionary).

The peripheral has proven so popular with Wii owners that THQ announced yesterday its intention to bring it to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in time for the holiday season (which I assume will be around November).

The uDraw GameTablet, first announced at gamescom 2010, is the new accessory from THQ, designed to bring your imagination to life thanks to its innovative and revolutionary design. It offers a new way for you and your friends or family to play on the Wii, offering an interactive and realistic drawing experience.

Dood’s Big Adventure is the first example of what kind of platforming you can enjoy thanks to the new uDraw GameTablet. It’s innovative and fun, but ultimately it’s a collection of mini-games that will keep you entertained for a few hours but won’t really hold your attention for longer than that.

The game consists of four different mini-games, each of which makes use of the uDraw GameTablet. This means that you’ll slot the Wii Remote into the GameTablet and control everything from there using the existing buttons and functionality, sketching on the drawing area using the interactive pressure-sensitive stylus.

Casual gaming is on the up-and-up, not only thanks to the accessibility the Wii control system provides, but also due to the simplicity of recent peripherals like the PlayStation Move and Kinect.

We’ve already seen that boardgames can successfully be transferred to gaming platforms, Trivial Pursuit and Uno being cases in point. Even though you don’t get that fresh cardboard smell and you miss out on the process of popping the cards and tokens out of their holders when you first open a new boardgame, you can still enjoy the fun that boardgames have to offer – minus the sticky fingers that inevitably make the cards a little tacky.

What can you find in part one and part two of this week’s El33tonline Podcast?

Wii Console Smaller With all of the excitement surrounding the impending launch of Nintendo’s next handheld, the 3DS, you’d half expect the publishing giant to forget about it’s current consoles and upcoming slate of titles scheduled for release on those machines, but this is definitely not the case.

Nintendo UK has just released quite a comprehensive list of upcoming titles set for release on both the Wii and DS, accompanied by exact dates and vague windows just to ensure that we know that they know they definitely still care:

When you think of innovation on the Wii you naturally think Nintendo given their creation of the Wii, peripherals and continuing success with AAA titles. So when we were presented the uDraw GameTablet for the Wii by THQ at gamescom today there was naturally some scepticism. THQ Creative Director Luis Gigliotti took us through the demonstration of the uDraw GameTablet and the three launch titles.
