We may all remember Trials HD as the supremely challenging, nigh on impossible puzzle/platform/stunt/racing game that tested your nerves (and patience) as you gingerly made your way through devious 2D courses on your bike.
The Xbox LIVE Arcade game was (and still is) very popular indeed and now developer RedLynx is ready to follow up the success of Trials HD with Trials Evolution, a game that is much more than a mere sequel.
The latest news from the Ubisoft camp is that they have acquired RedLynx, the Finland-based developer who created the popular Xbox LIVE game Trials.
It’s not surprising that RedLynx caught the publisher’s keen eye, given that Trials has become the best-selling game ever on Xbox LIVE Arcade with over two million downloads across the game and both downloadable content packs. And with Trials Evolution already in development and due for release in the coming months, RedLynx is definitely moving on up since it was founded in 2000.
Developer RedLynx has just announced Trials Evolution for Xbox LIVE Arcade, the sequel to its popular motorcycle stunts game Trials HD.
Flashback to September last year…that was when developer RedLynx announced that Trials HD had passed the one million sales mark in just over a year.
Today we learn that the popular Xbox LIVE Arcade title has reached the two million sales mark. This includes sales across the base game and both DLCs.
If you haven’t yet tried out great Xbox LIVE Arcade titles such as Trials HD, LIMBO and Splosion Man, then this Triple Pack is definitely the deal for you.
Batches of new content are now up on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, ready for your discerning tastes!
The comic book-themed Xbox LIVE Arcade action game (previously a PSP game), Unbound Saga, is now available for download on the ‘ole Marketplace, and two (count them) add-ons have been released in the form of the ‘Big Thrills’ pack for Trials HD, and the free ‘Spunky Cola Special DLC’ pack for Monday Night Combat.
Get all the details (and a few trailers) on these new additions to Xbox LIVE Marketplace:
Developer RedLynx has revealed that its popular Xbox Live Arcade title, Trials HD, has just passed the one million sales mark. Pretty impressive given that it’s only been a little over a year since the game was released.
This sales mark doesn’t include sales of the first expansion pack, Trials HD - Big Pack, but only sales of the game through Xbox Live Arcade. The second expansion pack for the game, Trials HD – Big Thrills, will deliver 40 new tracks including 10 tracks created by fans who recently competed in the Track Creator Challenge. It is scheduled to be released in the fourth quarter of this year.
Oh that rascally Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2! Always beating up on all of the other Xbox 360 games! It’s just never content with an Xbox LIVE activity ranking of anything less than No. 1! What are we going to do with it?!
Well I’ll tell you what we’re going to do.
We’re going to airdrop copies of Halo 3 and Red Dead Redemption into every major city, town and village in the world and make sure that these games (which have the best chance of upsetting ‘the king’) finally overtake Modern Warfare 2 on the chart.
Failing that… I don’t know anymore…
Moving right along, let’s have a look at the best selling Xbox LIVE Arcade game for last week and… oh look, another Xbox LIVE bully!
Yesterday we got first word of Creat Studios’ next game, a stylised vehicle-based platformer by the name of TerRover, along with the release of a bunch of interesting gameplay details and screenshots to boot.
Now we’re able to clap our eyes on some in-game footage from TerRover, showing off those interesting gameplay details in motion, as the physics-based nature of the game is also revealed in full force - if you enjoyed Trials HD, this may be your next game!
Watch below:
According to Xbox mouthpiece Major Nelson (he’s been really prolific with his posts today!), over one million Xbox LIVE users voted on your favourite Xbox LIVE Arcade games of 2009, from games like Trials HD and Splosion Man, to Battlefield 1943 and Shadow Complex, in categories such as ‘Best Original Game,’ ‘Best Graphics’ and ‘Best Innovation.’
The results of the voting follows below:
Riding a bike is fun. Riding a bike over obstacles is more fun. Jumping through loops on fire 200 meters in the air is fun. Falling off a bike is not fun. Watching someone else fall off a bike is fun. Trials HD is game about doing just that. You get to be a biker on a stunt bike, and not have to worry about any physical harm.
The concept of Trials HD is very simple. You control a bike and its rider’s balance. The bike moves along a 2D plane in a beautiful 3D world. You accelerate the bike and lean the rider forward and backward. Realistic physics takes over and this allows the bike to jump, wheelie, do backflips and ultimately crash in a thousand different ways.

If this newly released, short and explosive trailer is anything to go by (and it is), Trials HD, everybody’s favourite physics-based, puzzle-platforming motorcycle game on Xbox LIVE Arcade, will be receiving a pack of downloadable content (DLC) entitled the BIG Pack.
DLC for the popular game was promised roughly three months ago, so hopefully for fans of Trials HD, this time it’s for real. Watch the trailer just below:
Enjoy it while it lasts, Halo 3, because while you may be at the top of the Xbox LIVE Activity Chart this week… and maybe next week and possibly the week after, it can’t possibly last after the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 over the week of November 17th. Soak it up.
In fact, the assault on Halo 3’s dominance may start a little early, after Xbox LIVE’s Deal of the Week this week reduced the price of Call of Duty 4’s Variety Map Pack by half, which gives just that little bit more of an incentive for CoD 4 (currently at No. 2 on the activity chart) players to get online and shoot some fools in the face in a variety of different ways. cough
Top selling Xbox LIVE Arcade titles for this week include Trials HD (once again) at No. 1, SOUTH PARK LET’S GO TOWER DEFENSE PLAY! at No. 2 and Zombie Apocalypse at No. 3.
The Xbox LIVE Indie Games sales list is mixed up a tiny bit as Avatar Drop reaches No. 1 and I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 shifts down to No. 2, with the ever-present Headshot sitting stubbornly at No. 3.

Halo 3 once again sits atop the Xbox LIVE Activity Chart for who-knows-how-many time in a row (a lot!), but it had better be savouring every last second it remains at No. 1, because that big ‘ole gorilla, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, is releasing inside of two weeks from now, and if history has any say, it’s going to wipe Halo 3 away and claim No. 1 for itself.
That’s not to say Halo 3 won’t put up any kind of fight – with the release of Halo 3: ODST (which you can read out review of over here), this two year old game is still giving the new kids on the block a run for their money, so it’s going to be extremely interesting to see how the chart shakes out in the future.
On the best-selling Xbox LIVE Arcade Chart, Trials HD manages to climb its way back to the top, followed by SOUTH PARK LET’S GO TOWER DEFENSE PLAY! and the more recent title, Tower Bloxx Deluxe.
Something needs to be done about the Xbox LIVE Indie Games sales chart… once again, we have Avatar Drop, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 and Headshot in the top three… c’mon indie developers! Make us some new hits!
The full global list of top played Xbox Live games, original Xbox games and top selling XBLA and Xbox LIVE Indie Games follows below, all based on unique users and full versions purchased.
It’s no real surprise that Halo 3 remains at the top of the Xbox LIVE Activity chart for the past week, after the extremely strong release of Halo 3: ODST which contained additional content for Halo 3 multiplayer, but it is at least a little interesting that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has managed to keep in the top three most played games on the service for the last few weeks, as players prepare for the next iteration of the series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Halo 3: ODST, Call of Duty: World at War and Gears of War 2 follow behind the top two in terms of Xbox LIVE activity.
On the Xbox LIVE Arcade sales front, there’s a great battle going on as Trials HD moves back up to the No. 1 as the most bought XBLA title, shoving last week’s No. 1, Zombie Apocalypse, to No. 2, as newly released title Bust-A-Move Live! sits at No. 3.
I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 is still the best selling Xbox LIVE Indie Game, and is still ahead of what seems like perennial best-sellers Avatar Drop and Avatar Golf.
