At this point in time, the Call of Duty franchise is a force of nature and has grown in leaps and bounds with every iteration of the series as each subsequent entry has gone on to outsell the last.

The biggest surprise came last year when Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops went on to break videogame sales records and outsell Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (which had previously broken sales records itself) with 5.6 million units sold on day one of availability in the US and the UK, generating $360 million in revenue.

Shangri-La has long held a place in many an adventurer’s heart as a ‘Mecca’ of sorts, a mystical and magical place begging to be discovered and explored.

While on a routine patrol during a recent peacekeeping mission in Tibet, a group of US soldiers reportedly stumbled upon ancient ruins which they claimed to be the long-lost temples of the city of Shangr-La. After the group’s initial find a few weeks ago, all communication with the soldiers suddenly and mysteriously ceased… until now.

One of the marines was recently found dead in the outskirts of a jungle, in the possession of shocking video and photographic material showing how his squad was ripped to pieces by ghastly, otherworldly creatures.

We have acquired the material and included it below, but it is not for the faint of heart – parental guidance is advised:

The reported Limited Edition version of Call of Duty: Black Ops has been confirmed to be a real product thanks to word from Activision, and is indeed due for release on June 28th across North America at “all retailers.”

This special edition of Black Ops, which will retail for $59.99, will come standard with a token for the game’s very first set of downloadable content, the First Strike map pack, giving players access to five all new multiplayer maps.

But why doesn’t Activision throw in the second set of DLC, too, or wait until the third map pack is out to include that set as well?

Activision mouthpiece Dan Amrich (and social media manager for the company) has got very philosophical over on the PlayStation Blog and announced that a lengthy Double XP weekend will begin today for Call of Duty: Black Ops – exclusive to the PlayStation 3.
