Hmm… it’s still a good update this week for the European PlayStation Store, but not quite up to the standard of previous additions to the service.
But don’t lose heart! We’ve got a Quantum Theory demo to look forward to! Also, a downloadable game called Top Gun! Also, downloadable content for Mafia II, Dragon Age: Origins and Transformers: War for Cyberton.
Let’s not forget about a bunch of great price reductions on some interesting games, and the usual assortment of themes, wallpapers and Avatars, and new songs for Singstar, Rock Band and Guitar Hero.
Hey, this update isn’t looking so bad after all!

Uh-oh, what’s this? The battle for Cybertron is still raging on in this second downloadable content pack for Transformers: War for Cybertron?
I guess this means it’s time to ‘lock and load’ again? Hmm, I don’t have any other plans today… sure, I’ll lock and load. But this is the last time, OK Transformers? Then you’re on your own against the Decepticons. This battle has taken its toll on my fingers.
It’s a bit of a slim update this week on the European PlayStation Store, with the absolute highlights being Earthworm Jim HD, downloadable content for Transformers: War for Cybertron, and demos for Madden NFL 11 and Flower.
Nostalgia seekers, PSP gamers and deal hunters should find some appealing pickings when the Store updates in just a few hours, while Guitar Hero and Rock Band players may just have their interest piqued by a few track offerings.

If you’re a fan of the recently released Transformers: War for Cybertron action game, and you’ve got 800 MS Points to spare, then you’ve got no excuse not to get the first set of downloadable content for the game.
The Transformers: War for Cybertron DLC pack includes two new multiplayer maps for Escalation mode, as well as five new characters. Which characters, exactly? I’ll let you refer to the official explanation for that answer:
This latest trailer for the recently released Transformers: War for Cybertron ably demonstrates the new playable characters you’ll gain access to with the purchase of the upcoming downloadable content (DLC) pack, which is set to include four new multiplayer maps in addition to five new selectable characters.
Also: You have to listen to the epic (and very ‘Eighties’) “Till All Are One” Transformers theme song which accompanies the brutal, action-packed gameplay on display:
Licensed games do not really have a good reputation as being good games, especially if they are based on movies. But occasionally you get a game that actually surprises you and turns out to be a rather good game. What is the secret to a licensed game’s success? Easy, base it on the license, and not a movie of the license. Take Batman Arkham Asylum, it was arguably the second best action adventure game of the year (behind Uncharted 2) and certainly the best Batman game of all time. It could easily have been a Dark Knight movie tie-in and it would certainly have sucked. Yet it did not and it does not. The developers took the Batman license and made a great game on its own.
Enter stage left Transformers. Their record in the gaming universe has been rather dismal. The last game I played was Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. It was actually more fun than the movie, but in this case it does not say a lot about the movie as the game was a drab exercise in movie cash-ins. The latest Transformers game, War for Cybertron, takes a leaf out of Batman’s book and creates its own story and is based on Transformers in name only. But does it make for a good game? Yes it does!
