It’s always fun to see a new and unknown game hit the top of Chart Track’s UK Software Sales Chart and stay at No. 1 for a few weeks, to the frustration and chagrin of other, better established franchises like Call of Duty, FIFA and Battlefield.
When that title begins to outstay its welcome, however, those better established franchises tend to get a little… exacerbated, and now that Zumba Fitness has remained at No. 1 for five weeks in a row, and has managed to top the chart for a total of eight weeks this year, Activision, EA and other publishers must be pulling their hair out.
The title for the game, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, is a bit misleading. Although it would logically seem that this is a tie-in to the movie of the same name, it is actually a prequel to the events that take place in the movie. In fact, if for some reason you’re expecting to spend a little quality time with the great big ball of cheese orbiting around our planet then consider this your friendly neighbourhood astronomical forewarning: In this game you aren’t going to see much of the moon except in the introduction!
But please don’t let this little service announcement put you off – Transformers: Dark of the Moon, despite its titular hoodwinking, has some potential entertainment value behind it for kids and adults alike!

This is an incredible run for 505 Games/Majesco Entertainment’s fitness game, Zumba Fitness, as the title has once again topped Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing for the fourth week in a row.
This means that Zumba Fitness has sat at No. 1 on the chart for a total of seven weeks since earlier this year, and during a week of little resistance in terms of new games, the title is certainly capitalising on the opportunity to rack up sales.
DiRT 3 (sales up 28%) is the first game to offer a fight to the new chart king, moving from No. 7 to No. 2 during a week of price promotions in the UK. Transformers: Dark of the Moon (sales up 10%) is also a worthy adversary thanks to the release of the film of the same name, shifting up three places to No. 3 this week.
It’s been another incredibly busy week here at El33tonline, not only because of a good, constant stream of videogame news, a few new reviews, an in-depth preview, and a host of competitions, but we also announced our attendance at rAge this year!
That’s right! We’ll be at booth 28 of rAge 2011 in Johannesburg, taking place at the Coca-Cola Dome from September 30th through October 2nd - if you’re in the area, be sure to stop by to take part in a few activities, giveaways and competitions, but if you won’t be there, we’ve got you covered.
All of this excitement and content tends to wear a person out, you know? So the team at El33tonline will be relaxing in the only way we know how - by playing games! Find out what members of the team will be busy with this weekend, and be sure to let us know what you’re playing, too:
If you’re a fan of gobs of horror and dollops of creep in your games, then you’ve certainly come to the right week, but if you’re more into the destruction of gigantic robotic creatures, or you enjoy playing mini-games with your friends, then the games releasing today in South Africa, the UK and Europe have you covered!
Transformers: Dark of the Moon will soon become available across North America, and only releases in European territories on June 24th… but that doesn’t matter to this launch trailer for Activision and High Moon’s latest action game!
As far as this trailer is concerned, it’s always a good time to watch colossal robotic creatures destroy each other with lasers, explosions and mammoth melee attacks!
Transformers: Dark of the Moon was officially announced in mid-February this year and will be arriving on most every gaming platform in time for the movie of the same name.
The videogame version, however, won’t be based directly on the film, but will rather serve as a prologue to the third big screen adaptation of Hasbro’s mega, sentient robot license, while introducing a new gameplay mechanic and Transformer ability – Stealth Force – to increase your range of destructive powers.
“Evil… can take many forms. So… can we.”
Look forward to taking on the form of fighter jets, muscle cars, trucks and more as Activision has officially announced the “prologue videogame” Transformers: Dark of the Moon for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, as well as Wii, DS and 3DS, “in anticipation of the film” of the same name.
