And wouldn’t you know it, Mafia II is this week’s No. 1 on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing. Mob connections do have their benefits, it seems.

Are the other games ‘on the take’? Were Kane & Lynch 2 and Toy Story 3 threatened and told to ‘take a dive’ this week, or else? How many cement-encrusted game boxes are now lying at the bottom of a river somewhere, just so that Mafia II could parade around at the top of the UK sales listing?

We’ll never know.

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days Logo 2

This week on Chart Track’s UK Software sales chart, Square Enix and IO Interactive’s Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days has managed to slaughter the competition and appear at No. 1 on the listing, ahead of current chart hero Toy Story 3.

This performance is a much better result for this action adventure franchise, as the original Kane & Lynch title was only able to reach a high of No. 14 on the UK chart when it released in 2007.

Toy Story 3 Logo (Small) Toy Story claimed a 3rd week at no 1 on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales chart this week, despite its sales dropping by 17% from last week. Three weeks at no 1 is a new record of success for a Disney published title. Meanwhile, Modern Warfare 2 is just one week away from overtaking Nintendo’s Brain Training and becoming the highest selling game ever in the UK, landing at 8 this week (down from 2 last week).

In a recent review of mine, I made a statement that goes as follows: a licensed game is only good if it does not try to re-enact a movie scene by scene, but rather uses the license for a completely standalone game. Transformers: War for Cybertron is the perfect example: it is a very good game and even though it has the Transformers license, it has nothing to do with the recent movies. Shrek: Forever After confirms this point even further, as it is based on the recent movie and is completely awful. Toy Story 3 falls firmly in the middle. As a game it does a lot of things right, most of it does not follow the movie plotline but the movie tie-in bits detract from the overall awesomeness that is the Toy Story universe. No doubt, however, that the game will still sell like hot cakes.

Andy is going to college, and all of his toys have been stuffed into boxes and long forgotten. So how do they keep themselves entertained? Simple, Hamm creates a board game that they can all play, while the rest of the gang tries to convince Andy to play with them all one last time.

Last week’s chart dominator, StarCraft II (sales down 72%), is this week relegated to No. 4 on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales chart, as Toy Story 3 reclaims the No. 1 position after a single week of absence, despite a 25% drop in sales.

This is expected, though. Toy Story 3 is available on multiple platforms and is riding the wave of the movie’s popularity, while StarCraft II is only available on a single platform. The real news this week on the ‘ole UK sales chart is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

It was inevitable. After twelve years of anticipation, and following the release of the original phenomenonal hit title, it had to happen.

To the absolute surprise of no-one, Blizzard Entertainment’s StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty has this week debuted at No. 1 on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales chart, no doubt effortlessly knocking last week’s chart topper, Toy Story 3, off of its perch.

Toy Story 3 Logo (Small) Disney Interactive Studios’ Toy Story 3 has managed to claim the No. 1 spot this week on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales chart, stepping up from No. 5 last week with a 78% surge in sales, in no small part due to the release of the movie.

Toy Story 3Disney has unleashed the debut trailer for Toy Story 3: The Video Game upon the world, filled to the brim with loveable characters and colourful stages.

Toy Story 3: The Video Game is (you guessed it) the official video game for the upcoming Pixar movie Toy Story 3. Toy Story 3 sees Buzz, Woody and the rest of the toy gang relocated to a room full of “untamed tots” after Andy jets off to college.

The film is directed by Lee Unkrich (co-director of Toy Story 2 and Finding Nemo) and you’ll be able to see it in 3D on the big screen on the 18th of June in the US and on the 23rd of July in the UK, as well as on the even bigger screen on Imax 3D.
