Silicon Knights, the developer of the recent Too Human, as well as Eternal Darkness, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes and the Legacy of Kain series, has ‘temporarily’ released 26 of its staff as a result of what they call a normal practice of growth and attrition. From a statement:

Too Human“After any big game ships, there is always some attrition. Teams are lean and mean in the beginning, grow toward the end of the project, and then whittle down once the project is finished. To that end, Silicon Knights temporary laid-off 26 employees today while they ramp up on other projects. All the company’s directors and leads are still at Silicon Knights and working on its next projects.”

The next projects are apparently new, exciting and several in number, while also seeking to be the ‘innovative games of tomorrow’, according to Denis Dyack, the chief at Silicon Knights:

“Silicon Knights is currently working on several new and exciting games that will be announced to the public in the coming months. In addition to those projects, Silicon Knights continues to develop and promote other new and original ideas, which will become the innovative games of tomorrow. These 26 individuals are hard-working and valued team members that we hope to bring back as we ramp up on our future projects.”

A new video for the upcoming Too Human shows just how easy it is to juggle your enemies in the air, Devil May Cry style, with a combination of melee and ranged weapons, accompanied by a sweeping orchestral score. Looks epic.

Too Human, the platform-swapping, 10-years-in-the-making action game, is set for release later this month - the 29th of August, to be precise - for the Xbox 360. Denis Dyack of Silicon Knights (the developers) will only have his doomsday prophecy confirmed if the game doesn’t sell well, so be a dear and pick up a copy when it’s available…just to stick it to Dyack and give him some money at the same time.

Too HumanE3 has already kicked off, it seems.

Microsoft have revealed they are to release a demo and trailer of Too Human today to start their E3 campaign with a bang (or thud, depending).

Silicon Knights’ Too Human, a game combining action and RPG elements, follows the story of Baldur, a cybernetic Norse god, trying to protect humanity from ‘the machines.’ After 10 years of brewing in the bowls of Silicon Knights, and a release date of August 29th (in the UK), Too Human is sure to feature heavily in Microsoft’s E3 proceedings.

You can grab the demo and trailer on Xbox Live later today, though a Gold membership is required.
