The first screenshots from the upcoming Tony Hawk: Shred have been released, featuring in-game moments in time captured for our leisurely perusal.
Shred is the next game from Activision to make use of the special skateboard peripheral first seen and released with Tony Hawk: Ride, and while that game didn’t fair too well in the marketplace or in the reviewer’s score column, developer Robomodo and Tony Hawk himself must feel pretty confident in the sequel if they’re going to bother releasing one at all.
The screenshots show off a bunch of extreme sportspeople indulging in highflying skateboarding antics, as well as one other sport that involves a board, but no wheels… well, you’ll see what I mean:
Skateboarder extraordinaire Tony Hawk recently ‘announced’ via his Twitter account that the next game in the long-running series of Tony Hawk games would feature the title ‘Tony Hawk: SHRED,’ tweeting:
“Tony Hawk: Shred. There, I said it. Actually, I named it. Somewhere a PR team is reeling”
Very soon after the ‘announcement’ by Hawk himself, the entry was removed, leading to speculation over the true name that would adorn the upcoming, expected follow-up to last year’s not-so-hot Tony Hawk: RIDE.
Today however, a representative from Activision has confirmed the title:
Activision Blizzard recently posted results for its fiscal third quarter ending December 31st, and in spite of the industry crushing sales performance of the publisher’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, quarterly net loss widened from $72 million the year previous to $286 million.
Partly to blame for this performance, says Activision Blizzard, was a softer casual and music game market, but the company still claims that it beat prior expectations.
A new video interview with legendary pro skater Tony Hawk delves a little bit into his past and his obsession with classic, but limited skating games, as well as his enthusiasm for working on a skateboarding videogame of his own, which sparked the creation of an entire genre and a franchise.
Hawk also discusses the evolution of the skating game and what he believes the next direction of the genre to be (hint: Tony Hawk: RIDE), as well as his involvement in making that happen.

The debut trailer for EA and Black Box’s next skateboarding simulator, Skate 3, has been released and showcases what seems to be the new feature of the next game in the Skate series – team play.
In the trailer you’ll see a whole group of skaters rolling through the streets in unison, and taking turns to perform tricks and jumps. The trailer also dates Skate 3 as a May 2010 release, which is still a little ways out, but probably not long enough for the next Tony Hawk game, Ride, to steal the series’ thunder.

In anticipation of the release of Tony Hawk: Ride in North America on November 17th, and November 20th in the UK and Germany, Activision has released a batch of screenshots to show off the highly colourful, creative environments you’ll be grinding and jumping over.
You can also watch two new videos, one of which features these environments in motion, while the other shows an Activision employee on the Tony Hawk: Ride skateboard peripheral, attempting a ‘sick’ run:

The new skating game, which comes bundled with a skateboard peripheral, was recently revealed to only be releasing in the US, UK and Germany this year, while other regions will have to wait until next year to break their neck after slipping on the custom controller.

In their second fiscal quarter financial report, Activision Blizzard revealed that revenue for the period ended June 30th reached $1.04 billion, ahead of previous estimates of $1 billion, as well the fact that the company has a bevy of new games in development, but were also forced to reveal that the release of StarCraft II was being moved into the first half of calendar year 2010.
Driving the excellent performance for the second quarter, however, were titles such as Prototype, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Continued strong sales of entries to the Guitar Hero, World of Warcraft and Call of Duty franchises also contributed to the better than expected quarterly revenue.
Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick also announced 2.8 percentage points of market share growth in North America and Europe across all platforms, rising to 12.7 percent over 9.9 percent last year. Kotick also said that, according to NPD, Chart-Track and Gfk sales tracking data, Activision Blizzard was the number one third-party console and handheld software publisher in North America during the quarter.
Activision first introduced us to Tony Hawk: Ride last month, but E3 has seen the release of more information and the first screenshots of the game.

We already know that the next installment in the popular Tony Hawk series of skateboarding games will introduce gamers to a new motion sensing skateboard-shaped controller. Publisher Activision has since revealed that Tony Hawk: Ride is in development for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii and that the game will be released this fall.
Robomodo will be handling the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game while Buzz Monkey will be in charge of developing the Wii version.
Tony Hawk: Ride features a wireless skateboard controller which has been designed in conjunction with the game to offer a dynamic gaming experience built from the ground up. The controller will use a combination of accelerometers and motion sensors to allow players to physically control the action by performing different movements and gestures on the board that translate into tricks in the game. This new control scheme will enable gamers of all skill levels to step on the board and play with complex button combinations a thing of the past.
The debut trailer for the next entry to the Tony Hawk series of skateboarding games has been released, confirming the name of the game in the process. Tony Hawk: Ride is the title, and promises a brand new way to play – by using a skateboard-shaped controller.
Does it work similarly to the Wii Balance Board? Only time will tell. Watch the first trailer for Tony Hawk: Ride, which features some in-game footage, below:
