Earlier this year Crystal Dynamics took the wraps off of ‘The Tomb Raider Trilogy,’ a compilation of past Tomb Raider games on one Blu-ray disc for PlayStation 3.
When the trilogy pack goes on sale later this month, you’ll be able to get your hands on remastered versions of Tomb Raider Legend and Tomb Raider Anniversary (i.e. high definition art assets used to improve the visuals), as well as Tomb Raider Underworld (which was previously release for PS3) – all in one collection!
To showcase the huge difference in visual fidelity between the original ‘Legend’ and ‘Anniversary’ games on PlayStation 2 compared to the remastered versions on PlayStation 3, Crystal Dynamics has released a few comparison images with both versions side-by-side:
Eidos has announced a Tomb Raider PSP Double Pack will be available exclusively across Europe on the 10th of April.
The Double Pack will contain two previous Tomb Raider adventures, Legend and Anniversary. Lara’s adventure in Legend takes her from the Peruvian jungles to the snowy Himalayan mountains and exploring into ancient tombs while Anniversary was inspired by the first Tomb Raider game.
The game will make use of software designed specifically for the PSP, “the graphics, technology, physics and engine bring Lara’s adventures right up to today’s technology standards.”
For the past twelve years, Lara Croft has been the Hollywood starlet of videogames. When she made her debut in 1996, she was instantly established as a hot new property, an object of desire for male gamers and a welcome role model for gaming’s small but rapidly growing contingent of young ladies. In a very short time she had become a true icon, a figurehead for gaming’s accelerating emergence as a significant aspect of popular culture. Her image appeared on magazine covers and in television advertisements, and her name and likeness were recognisable even to people who had never before played videogames. A Tomb Raider film was released and made more money than any videogame-based movie before or since. But then, as with so many promising young celebrities, things started going wrong.
