There are loads of Wii accessories out there in the shops these days, so they must be popular with Wii owners. If you’re on the market for some useful ones, the Thrustmaster T-Megapack for Wii is a solid option. It comes with a wheel that you can dock your Wii remote in for driving games, a protective grippy cover for the Wii Remote and the Nunchuk, and a docking station to charge and store your Wii Remote and Nunchuk in a neat fashion. It also includes batteries, rechargeable ones.

The covers are designed to both protect the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, and to improve your grip on the controllers. With the cover on the controller is far less likely to fly out of your hand when you throw a punch in Wii Sports. They’re also comfortable to hold, and fit well around the controllers.

The wheel is also well made with a sturdy, weighty feel and good grip. To use it you simply slowly slip the Wii Remote into the slot sideways. There’s no clip or anything, but it’s a tight fit so in our tests it didn’t fall out despite our best efforts. The only problem with it is a lack of games available that you can use it for. We tried it out with Excite Truck (which will hopefully be out soon in South Africa), and found it was more fun than using the Wii Remote on its own, and it enhanced the game play a little as you knew what angle you were holding the Remote at. In Excite Truck you tilt the Wii Remote forward or backwards to change the angle of your car in the air, as well as left or right to steer the car, and the wheel gives you better feedback than the standalone Remote simply because of its similarity to a real steering wheel.

We still have to check how well this wheel will work with Mario Kart Wii. Since that game only comes with one wheel shell you’ll likely want a few more if you plan to play with three others, and this Thrustmaster wheel looks to be a good option. We will let you know as soon as we have put Mario Kart Wii through its paces towards the end of the week.
