Curious.
Now why would the official PlayStation Twitter account link to the official website for Thief 4, accompanied by the effusive words “Oh man”?
While the development of Thief 4 was announced back in May, since then news around the fourth entry to the first-person stealth action series has been minimal.
So far we know that Thief 4 is in development at Eidos Montreal under the studio’s best core team although specific game details have yet to be made public.
General manager at Eidos Montreal, Stephane D’Astous, has confirmed that a fourth entry to the first-person stealth action series, Thief, is currently in development at the studio, although it’s too early for the studio “to offer any specific game details.”
“We’re in the early development stages for Thief 4,” said D’Astous, “but this is an incredibly ambitious and exciting project for Eidos.” D’Astous continued on to say that the development staff on the project comprise the studio’s “best core team.”
Another highly regarded series is also getting a sequel courtesy of Eidos Montreal in the form of Deus Ex 3, the development lineage of which intersects with that of Thief, as entries to both series were worked on by Ion Storm Austin, at the time headed up by veteran Warren Spector.
According to a posting on Eidos’ website, Eidos-Montreal is recruiting for their “2nd ‘AAA’ project.” Their hint that “the title begins with the letter T” has since led to speculation that the fourth installment in the popular Thief series may well be on the cards.
The fact that the website also states that its first two games will “revive successful franchises” has added fuel to the rumour fire but Eidos has yet to confirm the theories.
