UK sales tracking firm Chart Track says that only one new game entered its weekly list of Top 40 best-selling games in the region this past week. This single debut entry to the sales chart also happened to become the UK’s latest No. 1 game on the listing.
That game’s name? The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition.
It’s that time of the week when we breathe a sigh of relief and take some time out to relax, spend time with friends and family, and put our feet up with a controller in our hands.
Here’s what we’ll be up to this weekend, what will you be doing?
The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition went on sale today so Xbox 360 owners can finally experience one of the finest RPGs of this generation. The game’s selling points include its rich, nonlinear narrative, deep RPG gameplay mechanics and beautiful graphics. The Witcher 2 uses the RED Engine which allows for huge open environments with plenty of detail, and has no problem handling dozens of animated character models on screen at once.
The Xbox 360 has no shortage of quality RPGs but The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition is nevertheless an absolutely essential game for fans of the genre. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a review copy a few days before the game’s official launch tomorrow (April 17th) and so far I’ve been blown away by the incredible scope and nonlinear nature of the game’s extraordinary narrative.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings was one of the most technically accomplished and graphically impressive PC titles of last year, boasting the fully scalable RED Engine that made the game look great even on old hardware. Original developer CD Projekt RED has spent almost a year porting The Witcher 2 to Xbox 360 and we’ll soon be able to see how successful the studio’s efforts have been when the game is released in a week’s time.
It’s official - The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition for Xbox 360 and PC has gone gold with just over two weeks to go until its April 17th worldwide launch! If that wasn’t enough excitement for one day, CD Projekt RED also revealed that it will hold a conference on April 5th to announce “something truly extraordinary.”
If you’re yearning to play a deep, mature and beautiful action RPG on your Xbox 360 then The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition is for you. This updated version of the critically acclaimed PC title from last year has been optimised for Xbox 360 by the original developer (CD Projekt RED) rather than handed over to another studio to take care of the port.
Polish studio CD Projekt RED seems like one of the most generous and likeable developers around. Not only do they continue to release free DLC for the PC version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings but a duo of teaser trailers for The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition suggests that they have a sense of humour too.
Do you ever daydream about what AAA games will look like in ten years’ time? I know I do, but somewhere along the line reality kicks in and the rational part of my brain reminds me about the exorbitant costs associated with producing a full game’s worth of environments and characters which look as detailed as their real-world counterparts.
If you thought there weren’t going to be many big releases during the month of April then think again. CD Projekt has just announced that The Witcher 2: Enhanced Edition will be released for both Xbox 360 and PC on April 17th, and will feature hours of new content as well as numerous gameplay tweaks.
Polish developer CD Projekt RED continue to impress with their outstanding commitment to the studio’s successful RPG ‘The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings’. A number of patches have already been released since the game’s May debut, and tomorrow (September 29th) will see the title updated to version 2.0.
The patch contains a slew of combat enhancements, bug fixes and tweaks to certain game mechanisms, as well as three new modes. These are Arena (compete in a gladiatorial arena for a spot on the online leaderboard), Dark Mode (an extreme difficulty setting) and a new tutorial level which takes place separately from the campaign.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings may be one of the most critically and commercially successful PC games released this year, but that doesn’t mean its developers CD Projekt RED aren’t trying to make it even better.
The Polish studio recently released a hotfix to address some of the issues which may have been caused by patch 1.3. These include shadows not being displayed correctly in 3D Vision and Steam achievements not being registered.
As PC gamers swim in updates for The Witcher 2 from CD Projekt RED, recent reports have revealed that the game’s release on Xbox 360 has been delayed from its intended ‘fourth quarter’ launch window into early 2012.
The news arrives in a report on VG247, as head of CD Projeckt Red, Adam Kicinski, explains the reason for the delay for Witcher 2 on Xbox 360:
It’s been a good few weeks since patch 1.3 for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings was first announced. Thankfully the long wait is over and the promised update is now available to download.
The patch includes fifty additions, tweaks and fixes including a new quest in Chapter 2 called “A Sackful of Fluff,” support for 4:3, 5:4 and 16:10 aspect ratios as well as difficulty adjustments to the game’s Prologue.
Here is the full list of changes included in patch 1.3:
CD Projekt RED recently announced that the next patch for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will include the free downloadable content (DLC) “A Sackful of Fluff.”
This new quest appears in Chapter 2 of the game, and will apparently “prove most rewarding to those who demonstrate patience.” The addition of this quest is just one of 45 changes, tweaks and improvements detailed in an early changelog for patch 1.3.
