Organisers of the annual Penny Arcade Expo, or PAX, have released a long, comprehensive list of companies that will be exhibiting and hocking their wares at PAX 2009 this year, the sixth rendition of the show.

PAX LogoExhibitors include major game developers and publishers such as Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, Blizzard and Ubisoft, which means there’s going to be an abundance of yet-to-be-released games on the show floor for people to get their hands on.

PAX 2009 will also play host to panels by respected videogame, comic book and geek culture figures, something called the Omegathon gaming competition, tournaments, the results of the PAX 10 Independent Games Showcase, and more (detailed below). An official statement from Penny Arcade reads:

“PAX IS SO GREAT,” said Robert Khoo of Penny Arcade. “SO GREAT.”

Excellent.

The PAX 10 Independent Games Showcase is a chance for independent game developers to have their games placed on show besides enormous games developers and publishers at the annual Penny Arcade Expo (PAX), and elevate their creations to the same level as those from Nintendo, Microsoft and Ubisoft… at least for a few days, anyway.

PAX LogoAfter receiving over 150 submissions from indie developers, eager to win such a chance at high level exposure, The PAX 10 judges have chosen the ten winning finalists to be showcased during the sixth annual PAX this year at the Washington State Convention and Trader Center, from September 4th to September 6th.

During the show, the 10 finalists will be judged and a final, overall champion will be chosen. Last year, this honour went to eventual Xbox LIVE Arcade game, The Maw. Robert Khoo of Penny Arcade said of the entries:

The organisers of this year’s Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) have announced that submissions are now being accepted for the independent game showcase portion of the event, The PAX 10.

PAX LogoIndependent game developers’ submissions will be judged by a panel of fifty industry experts, including Penny Arcade’s Gabe and Tycho, who will whittle the entries down to only ten.

These ten winners will be announced in July and the creators will be invited to showcase their winning work at The PAX 10 indie showcase at the PAX 2009 Exhibition Hall Sept. 4-6 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center.

“We were absolutely amazed by the quality and diversity of games submitted in 2008,” said Robert Khoo of Penny Arcade. “I’m excited to see what the community of indie game devs have in store for us this year. Good luck to everyone!”

Indie developers can submit their work now over here - you have until May 9th to do so. You can also head on over to the official PAX site to pre-register for the event, and check out some extra information.
