EL33TONLINE: News tag archive: thedarkness2
The thing that most stayed with me after discovering all that The Darkness II had to offer was surprising. It wasn’t the ultra violence (although that’s pretty affecting to begin with). It wasn’t the excellent voice acting (but that effortlessly brings the characters to life). It wasn’t the fully featured co-operative mode (which is incredibly deep) nor was it the well thought-out ability upgrade system (which is very smart).

Action RPG Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has ousted its Japanese counterpart, Final Fantasy XIII-2, from the top of Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing this week and heads straight to No. 1 during its first week on sale.
Chart Track notes that the last brand new intellectual property to hit the top spot in the chart was Dead Island in 2011, but the last time an original RPG was No. 1 was way back in 2000 with Pokemon Red. An amazing statistic!
In The Darkness II you play as Jackie Estacado, the head of a powerful mafia family and also the current infested host of ‘The Darkness,’ an ancient and supreme being that bestows upon Jackie unbelievable powers of destruction, but wreaks ultimate havoc on his mind, too.
A vicious, bloodthirsty entity and a hitman with an unstable mind? Not a good combination.
Using the terrible forces of two demon arms (manifestations of The Darkness itself) and a devastating array of dual-wielded weaponry, Jackie is once again forced to rely on The Darkness to tear, shred, eviscerate and otherwise ruin dozens of enemies in a truly spellbinding story of self-rescue.
To celebrate the recent release of The Darkness II, El33tonline and Megarom are giving away a PlayStation 3 copy of the game along with a copy of a very limited edition Darkness comic book.

Is it really Friday today? Is it really the end of the week? It sure is, and not a moment too soon! We’re almost at the finish line, folks, and once we cross that magical marker we’ll be in for some relaxing times with our favourite games!
Unless you’re working this weekend. Or studying. Or you’re going away and you won’t have access to your games. Or…
You know what? Let’s positate the negative and find out what members of El33tonline will be up to this weekend, and if you so desire, maybe you can get a few ideas of what you can do in-between the busy times over the next two days:
Wouldn’t you know it, but another tantalising videogame release is upon us once again, this time in the form of The Darkness II from 2K Games and Digital Extremes!
We don’t mean to blow your mind here, but The Darkness II is an ultra violent game. If you’ve read El33tonline’s preview or hands-on preview of the game, or if you’ve played the recently released demo, you’ll know that the set of execution moves available to you is especially gruesome and vicious.
Jackie Estacado may not have asked to be imbued with the dreadful power of The Darkness, but as this excellent launch trailer for The Darkness II shows, he’s very protective of the inhabiting force as he rends invading enemies intent on stealing it from him.
Watch below to see how Jackie deals with his foes as he duel wields destructive pistols and makes full use of The Darkness to make quick work of the encroaching danger.
For someone who acts like he hates The Darkness, Jackie sure seems to love it:
I didn’t play The Darkness so I was a bit unprepared for what I was about to experience in The Darkness II. Suffice to say I was creeped out pretty much immediately and it’s not often I can say something like that. After playing mostly kids games with my children I wasn’t mentally prepared for the violence and gore that The Darkness II displays. And, of course, one must not forget the evil undertone that the game has either.

“If you go down to Xbox LIVE today, you had better go in uncapped.
If you go down to Xbox LIVE today, your bandwidth is going to get slapped…”
A megaton of new content has arrived on Xbox LIVE today with demos for immensely anticipated games, as well as brand new content for extremely popular titles.
2K Games recently let it be known that a demo for Digital Extremes’ The Darkness II is due for release next week on all platforms, which will effectively give everyone a great taste of the ‘Quad Wielding’ gun- and demon-gameplay that this dark, terrifically violent game has to offer.
Jimmy. Shoshanna. Inugami. JP Dumond.
These names may not mean much to you right now, but when The Darkness II releases next year across Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, you’ll no doubt become very well acquainted as you inhabit each of these personalities in the game’s recently announced, dedicated four-player co-operative mode, Vendettas.
At first, Johnny Powell may seem like a paranoid schizophrenic, but if you listen carefully you’ll soon be able to benefit from his valuable knowledge concerning the goings on in the dark criminal underworld of The Darkness II, as protagonist Jackie faces off against the powerful ‘Brotherhood.’
Even with the power of The Darkness, how will Jackie survive against this ever-encroaching enemy? By employing the help of four other just as ruthless allies!
El33tonline has been revealing tons of reasons to get yourself to this year’s rAge expo in Johannesburg next week, with loads of prizes, competitions and giveaways happening at our very own Stand 28 on the showfloor of the Coca-Cola Dome.
South African videogame distributor Megarom has just announced a few different reasons to attend the show, too, and will be bringing a massive collection of unreleased games to rage 2011.
At an El33tonline attended gamescom presentation for Digital Extremes’ The Darkness II, 2K Games producer Seth Olshfski stepped us through the dark, twisted and hostile world that protagonist Jackie Estacado will need to fight through in order to get to the bottom of an attempt on his life by a rival mob gang.
Luckily for Jackie (and unluckily for those mobsters), players of The Darkness II will be able to wield the bloodthirsty powers of The Darkness itself, a legendary and terrible mystical force that lies at the centre of the conflict, and the game’s story.

In a bit of bad news for anyone looking forward to first-person ‘quad-wielding’ action this year, 2K Games has delayed Digital Extremes’ The Darkness II into early 2012 from it’s originally announced launch days of October 4th and October 7th in the US and Europe respectively.
