The Test Drive series of games has come a long way. It seemed to have hit a bit of a dead end in the late 90’s, but was successfully resuscitated towards the latter half of the next decade with Test Drive Unlimited. It was apparently successful enough to warrant a sequel and, even though the game is completely new and shiny, it still feels a lot like the old Test Drive game I used to play on my DOS computer.
Test Drive Unlimited 2 is trying hard to set itself apart from the rest of the racing game fraternity out there. It’s not quite hardcore simulation, so it won’t compete with Forza or Gran Turismo. It’s not quite arcade racer, so the Need for Speed crowd will probably not be too upset. But it does have an interesting card to play, namely two huge islands to do what you want in. Oh wait, Burnout Paradise already does that? Whoops!

In an open letter released today on behalf of publisher Atari and developer Eden Games, the Test Drive Unlimited 2 development team has sincerely apologised for the raft of issues that gamers have been experiencing with the open-world racing title, and have assured us that “significant progress” has been made to address these issues with upcoming patches.
Well, the word ‘apologise’ doesn’t feature in the letter, but you get the drift:
Ugh.
The terrible header aside, it’s good news for Atari and Test Drive Unlimited 2 this week as Eden Game’s highly ambitious open-world racing game has claimed No. 1 on Chart Track’s UK Software Sales listing for the past week, usurping previous crown holder Dead Space 2 in the process.
It definitely is the calm before the storm here, as there aren’t that many new game releases to get excited about this week… unless of course you’re a racing enthusiast with a penchant for customisation and an eagerness for exploring the island of Ibiza!
With the release of Atari and Eden Games’ Test Drive Unlimited 2 in the US today (and later this week around the world), two new informative developer diaries have been released discussing a few of the many features that have been squeezed into this ambitious racer.
Included in the conversations is information on Test Drive Unlimited 2’s social features, such as the ability to customise your home and hang out with friends online) and the game’s attention to detail, like the realistic day/night and weather cycles.
Test Drive Unlimited 2 is an ambitious game for sure, but if Eden has managed to pull everything together successfully it could just be magnificent. Get those new developer diaries, as well as two new gameplay videos and the fantastic launch trailer a little ways below:
February will see the release of Atari and Eden Games’ highly ambitious ‘massively open online racing’ game, Test Drive Unlimited 2, and the pair hope to deliver a title that effortlessly simulates not only the feel of racing, but the lifestyle of living on an exotic island while socialising with other online players, while customising your avatar and in-game home, experiencing the realistic weather systems and car damage, and progressing through the game’s story.
Test Drive Unlimited 2 will also feature extensive car customisation capabilities, allowing you to make your vehicles your own by changing basically every visual aspect, from the body colour and decals to the car’s interior, too.

Atari has announced that the publisher’s big game for February, Test Drive Unlimited 2, has gone gold and is one hundred percent complete, which means the title is ready for its US release on February 8th, and its European, UK and South African release on February 11th.
To celebrate going gold, Atari has released a batch of new screenshots showing off the game’s amazing visuals, and you can also watch the first ten minutes of this ambitious open-world racing game below:

Atari and Eden Studios’ next open-world racing and lifestyle game, Test Drive Unlimited 2, is set and ready for release early next month, on February 8th in North America and February 11th in Europe and the UK, which is when videogame racing fans will be able to immerse themselves in what is being called a Massively Open Online Racing game, or ‘M.O.O.R.’
Now that the North American edition of Atari’s Test Drive Unlimited 2 has received a solid release date, the company has announced the day that gamers in Europe and the UK will be able to get their hands on the open-world racing title, while detailing some of the pre-order incentives that we’ll have access to.
Following the unfortunate delay for Atari’s Test Drive Unlimited 2, a new and concrete US release date has recently been revealed for the open-world racing game, while pre-order bonuses have also been announced.
Atari has today officially announced the follow-up to 2006/2007’s Test Drive Unlimited in the form of Test Drive Unlimited 2, which is expected to release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in the ‘Fall’ of this year.
