In the first character trailer for the game, a few of the available characters to play as in the stage-based brawler, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash Up, have been showcased, including Raphael, Casey Jones and the Foot Ninja.

It has to be said, though, that the game is looking a little underwhelming and sluggish, especially considering its late September release date. Should they be showing footage like this with a few months to go until its done?

Ubisoft and Game Arts’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles brawler on the Wii, TMNT: Smash Up, has received a solid release date for the UK, moving away from the previously announced nebulous release window of ‘Quarter 4.’

September 25th is when you can expect to walk into a store near you (in the UK… and a store that sells videogames) to pick the game up – a game that is looking to be a hyped up version of Super Smash Bros.

Ballon TurtleAt an event in New York last week, it was revealed that a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) game was currently in development, although it’s not the Super Smash Bros inspired TMNT: Smash Up that you may be expecting.

Instead, the new TMNT game is a remake of the classic Turtles in Time game, complete with a 3D makeover, and will be making its way to the Xbox LIVE Arcade later this year, while an appearance could be made on the Wii’s downloadable game service, WiiWare, at the same time.

If you’re a fan of blurry, unfocussed camera footage of videogames, then you can have a gander at the Turtles in Time remake in movement below - it’s looking pretty smart indeed:

While it was revealed to be in existence without a name attached to the project, we now have a moniker to which we can refer when speaking about the new Teenage Mutant Ninja (Hero) Turtles game.

Entitled Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash Up (or TMNT: Smash Up), the game is a multiplayer brawler game in the same vein as the Super Smash Bros. series, where players face-off against one another in set arenas, playing as their favourite character from the franchise.

The trailer is mostly CG stuff, but still manages to stir a modicum of excitement, especially if you’re a fan of the Turtles. Watch below.

 

Ubisoft have announced that, to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja (Hero) Turtles, they will be releasing a new Ninja Turtles game.

Ballon TurtleReleasing on Wii this fall, the game doesn’t yet have an official title, but what is known is that it will include characters and locations from the history of the franchise, while gameplay will consist of four-player battles, ala Super Smash Bros.

Members from Team Ninja (Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive) will assist while Game Arts, a contributing studio to the development of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, will handle development duties. CEO of Mirage Studios, rights holder of the Ninja Turtles license, Gary Richardson said:

“We’re really excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first TMNT® comic and we have a number of radical ‘Shell-ebration’ events planned for 2009. The awesome new video game that Ubisoft will release in 2009 is an important part of celebrating this Turtles milestone with fans around the world.”
