We recently heard confirmation that Nintendo will indeed be showing a brand new Super Mario Bros. game at this year’s E3 event in June, running on the company’s next generation Wii U hardware, but that’s not all.
Confirmation has also arrived for an E3 showing of Pikmin 3, a game we’ve known about for quite some time.
Nintendo said in a statement:
Who says South Africa gets left out when it comes to great videogame content? Nay not I, and with the news that the country is set to receive ‘Super Mario All-Stars – 25th Anniversary Edition’ for the Wii in December, nay not you either!
Wipe the sleep from your eyes, do that double-take, pinch yourself and forcefully eject whatever is in your mouth right now, because it was recently announced that South African gamers, too, will be able to get their hands on the classic Mario game collection, which includes Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, all on one disk.
Update Nintendo of UK has since released a press release confirming that Super Mario All-Stars – 25th Anniversary Edition will be available on the Wii across Europe on the 3rd of December.
The 25th Anniversary Edition will include four popular Mario NES games as well as extra collectibles. The Super Mario All-Stars disc will contain Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. It will also include a booklet detailing Super Mario’s full history and an audio CD featuring music spanning the last 25 years of Super Mario games. End of Update
Last month Super Mario Bros. celebrated its 25th anniversary and Nintendo revealed that a special ‘Anniversary Edition’ of the game would become available for the Wii on the 21st of October.
The only thing is that according to the publisher this Anniversary Edition would only be coming to Japan. Well there’s some good news for you today folks because it looks like the re-release of Super Mario All-Stars will be coming to Europe as well!
To further recognise the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., Nintendo has announced that a special edition version of the company’s Wii console will be released to celebrate the occasion.
The Wii Super Mario 25th Anniversary Edition will include a red Wii console, a red WiiMote (with Wii Motion Plus built-in) and a red Nunchuck. This special console will also come pre-loaded with an anniversary edition of the original Super Mario Bros. available for you to play on the Wii.
Do you remember playing Super Mario Bros. on your NES way back in 1985? If you do, you deserve at least a modicum of respect because that means you’ve been playing games for at least 25 years.
Now go take your ‘old people pills.’ We’ll wait…
Hey, cheer up! You may be 25 years older than when you first experienced the joy of a side-scrolling Mario platform game, but that game is also 25 years old today, because on this day, September 13th in 1985, Super Mario Bros. was unleashed upon this earth.
