EL33TONLINE: News tag archive: suckerpunch
What sort of person would you be if you had super powers? Would you be the goodie-two-shoes-kissing-babies-and-saving-cats-out-of-trees type? Or would you be the superrich kind who used his powers to gain his wealth? Or would you be a super villain, creating havoc and fear throughout the world and doing whatever the hell you wanted?
These are the questions you get to answer when playing as Cole McGrath in the inFamous series of games.

inFamous 2 launches across South Africa and many other PAL regions today. The game hit shelves across North America two days ago and will arrive in Germany, Ireland and the UK on the 10th of June.
Ahead of a media showcase event at the studios of Sucker Punch, the developer has released a massive batch of gameplay videos and screenshots to give those of us unable to make it to the event a generous glimpse into the world of inFamous 2, and a look at the kinds of (enormous) enemies and (fantastic) action we can expect from the game.
When we say that the videos and screenshots are mighty and crushing, we really do mean it!
Find out what you can expect to see with a report from Sucker Punch Productions’ Brian Fleming, and treat yourself to this amazing haul of new inFamous 2 media:
Cole MacGrath is one greedy superhero – not content with his current electrical powers and the ability to use these abilities to destroy ne’er do wells on command, the fool has gone off in search of new, ‘better’ powers in addition to his personal battle to strike a balance between good and evil.
Lucky for him, and as demonstrated by a fantastic new trailer, his search paid off without being destroyed himself and in inFamous 2, Cole will be imbued with the powers of fire and ice to take on his next exciting, explosive adventures in the city of New Marais. Check it:
Earlier this month, Sucker Punch revealed details on how the studio’s inFamous 2 will incorporate ‘user-generated content’ into the game world, that ever-popular feature used to put content creation tools in the hands of players in order to allow us all to become amateur game designers and developers for a few hours.
Handily, this allowance simultaneously provides hundreds of thousands (and millions) of new pieces of downloadable content for a game months (and years) after its release.
In inFamous 2, Sucker Punch will be inviting players to create their own in-game missions in the categories of ‘Defence,’ ‘Escort,’ ‘Search and Destroy,’ ‘Survival’ and “much more,” and these user-created missions will then automatically appear in other gamers’ adventures if you’re hooked up online.
The original inFamous had a pretty black and white morality system included in the story that allowed you to make (basically) ‘good’ or ‘bad’ decisions throughout the adventure, and as Cole MacGrath became more and more powerful and discovered more abilities, these decisions disappointingly never became any more complex or intricate.
Developer Sucker Punch looks set to rectify this situation with the upcoming inFamous 2, however, and in the included ‘Duality’ trailer for this highly explosive action adventure game, we get extended looks at exciting new opportunities to either wreak havoc with exciting new powers, or save the citizens of New Marais with these potentially destructive abilities:
Sony Computer Entertainment and Sucker Punch have just announced an official North American release date for the pair’s electrically charged action game, inFamous 2, while revealing special editions and pre-order bonuses for both North America and Europe.
inFamous 2 is ready to release on June 7th in North America, but no official date has been announced for Europe and the UK. Judging by normal tradition, we could expect the game to become available in these regions on June 10th, but crazier things have happened.
At first I was very surprised when Sony removed the backwards compatibility from their newer PlayStation 3 consoles. Sure, the extra hardware to make it work was overkill, but emulation must surely have been on a level to keep it in as a software feature? The PS3 is arguably the most potent piece of console hardware and it cannot emulate previous-gen game systems? Fail! (PSA: Saying ‘Fail’ is ‘Fail’ – Ed)
But then it recently became very clear as to Sony’s strategy: “Rather than include the functionality to play PlayStation 2 games you already own, let’s wrap them up in a new and higher resolution, stick them on a Blu-ray (they are so cool anyway!) and sell them again as compilations.”
Sony has done this with the God of War games, and Ubisoft has also released the Prince of Persia trilogy as downloadable games, soon to be joined by the Splinter Cell trilogy. Sucker Punch has also recently released the Sly Cooper trilogy in a new HD jacket and shiny new shoes.

In posts on the PlayStation Blogs, Sucker Punch has given us a few insights into how the morality system included in the studio’s upcoming inFamous 2 will manifest itself while you’re playing this PlayStation 3-exclusve action game, while also taking the opportunity to introduce us to the companions that protagonist Cole will be teaming up with this time around.
Of course, Sucker Punch wouldn’t leave us without handing out a hale and hearty batch of screenshots to better showcase inFamous 2, with a brilliant video taken from one of the game’s cutscenes included, too.
From a post on the PlayStation Blog:
Is this the face of the ‘new new new’ Cole McGrath?
After unveiling the existence of Sucker Punch’s next superhero action adventure game, inFamous 2, fans of the first game weren’t too pleased with protagonist Cole McGrath’s new look, which lead to a few small changes being made to the character and a bit of a makeover.
Now though, with the release of two new screenshots for inFamous 2, we get to take a really close look at Cole’s understated look, scar and all:
Sony and Sucker Punch have released a new trailer for their upcoming action game, inFamous 2. This time round you’ll be treated to one of the early cut-scenes from the game, ‘Welcome to New Marais’ which is Cole’s new playground.
Warning: this is the final version that you’ll see in the game, so if you’re on media blackout already perhaps give this one a skip. But if you’d like to see the awesome 2D comic book style cut-scenes in action, waste no time taking a peek below.
Did you feel like enjoying a brand new batch of inFamous 2 screenshots this morning? Excellent, because Sony has just released a bunch of new images for you to pore over.
Is inFamous 2 already a contender for Game of the Year 2011?
After watching an incredible gameplay video emerging from the PAX Prime event in Seattle, I would say that Sucker Punch and Sony’s cracking action game will be more than equal to most other games due to release next year. At least the ones we know about.
When inFamous 2 was officially announced earlier this year, fans of the original game were surely overjoyed to hear that the adventures of superhero Cole McGrath would continue (especially with that ending), and would feature a brand new story, city and improved gameplay and graphics.
Everything you’d want in a sequel, basically.
Except something about the announcement of inFamous 2 didn’t sit well with fans, and it was a big something. The protagonist, Cole, looked different from the first game.
Very different.
Sony has released the first gameplay footage for the PS3-exclusive inFamous 2, and its packed full of explosions and up close and personal shots of Cole MacGrath’s new powers.
inFamous 2 sees Cole travelling to the Southern city of New Marais as he seeks to discover his full super-powered potential. Cole now has new melee combat and new super powers, including the super-charged Ionic Vortex.
Watch Cole in action below, and don’t be shy to browse through our previous coverage for more information, screenshots and the debut trailer for inFamous 2.
